4 out of 10 was agreed on by all in our party. – Except for the one about the dry chicken, the bad comments were correct. My belief is that this restaurant took the opportunity to hide the less desirable parts of the chicken beneath the sauce similar to the dollar chinese mystery meals. I ended up taking pieces of my girlfriends tandoori chicken and dipping it in my tika sauce. To add, dont go there starving. The portions are very small and very expensive. Service was horrible. I had to ask them three times to bring my coke.... read more
Great Indian Food, Warm Atmosphere – Wonderful place for a date. The food is authentic and tasty. The ambiance is cozy. Nice place to have a long conversation over Chai Masala that is served by friendly wait and bus staff. Mostly outdoors, but covered by a rain proof tarp and heat lanterns, this warmly lit restaurant evokes feelings of being abroad, far far away from Santa Monica Boulevard.
Best Overall Indian Restaurant – My boyfriend and I have been going here for several years. Everything about this place is RIGHT. The food is tasty - try the chicken tikka masala and lamb curry - the ambiance is very romantic, and the service is exceptional. The owners always come and greet us and make sure we receive first rate service. If I had to recommend one Indian restaurant in all of LA for a nice evening out with a loved one, or even for meeting up with a group to celebrate a special occasion, Flavor of India would b... read more
Nothing special – We ordered the bhel puri as an appetizer and it was sour and spicy, but it lacked actual taste (though it would be fair to note that this was our first time trying this type of dish so maybe its supposed to be that way). The aloo gobi was spicy, but it lacked flavor and the portion was a bit small. The chicken tikka masala was good (although some pieces of chicken were a tad dry) and was a good-sized dish. In terms of service, the hostess was very nice and our waiter was attentive. The covered outdoor patio... read more
User review by atla – we ordered hot and spicy chicken vindaloo and it turned out to be a very different vindaloo from what we had at many other indian restaurants. it wasn't hot or spicy as it said (it was more like a chicken stew) - absolutely hated it. also ordered rack of lamb - it was cooked well (not under cooked or over cooked) but lacked the full indian flavor. the service wasn't very impressive. many times we had to call for the service. their staff were gathering and chit-chatting instead of paying attention to the... read more
Quite simply the best Indian food in LA – As an Indian food-loving Englishman in LA, I have sampled many Indian restaurants in the LA area. In my opinion, and those of all my close friends here in LA, the Flavour of India is by far the best. The food has a much greater subtlety than is typical of the more 'curry' based restaurants. The flavours are both imaginative and delicious. Their Bhel Puri is the most aromatic appetizer imaginable. Strongly spicy Chana Phindi, perfectly cooked Paneer and the slightly sweet Malai Kofta ... read more
Nice restaurant, average mediocre food. – My girlfriend and I always wanted to come here and we finally did on Saturday (10/16/04). The owners were very nice and courteous. But the food was just a little bit below average, it could of been just a little bit better. It's different, the curry's got some sweet taste to, it's really not bad, but just below average expectations for the money spent. The decor was nice and its got this real Indian restaurant atmosphere feel to it. An overall great dining experience, again, the belo... read more
reliably yummy – I eat here at least once a week and have never had a bad meal here. The Chicken Tikka Marsala is the best. All their curry sauces are made from scratch are are not gloopy or dripping with ghee. The curry of the day is usually magnificent. All the vegetable entrees are good too, particularly the Malai Kofta, which is always a "special". If they don't have what you want on the menu. they'll make it up for you in the kitchen. Free parking available in parking space strapped Weho.
Great food and atmosphere – Most Indian places seems to have indifferent service at best. At Flavor of India they seem to actually care that you are having a good time. Ask about some of the dishes you are having and there's a good chance the chef will come out and enthusiastically answer your questions. Food is great, the semi-outdoor setting is nice. The menu is nice, with great vegetarian dishes. Maybe their lunch isn't good (I haven't tried), but dinner has been great everytime we have gone.
