Signed a sales contract in December 2016 and It took 11 months/12 days and 3 different commitments to close on my mortgage last year. They sit on paperwork for weeks, request duplicates over and over, and then ask for new paperwork with each commitment. Poor customer service, poor timeliness. Just an overall waste of time and energy. With the layoffs (two of whom are mentioned on this SM site), there has been no follow ups on the mortgage we were working on. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.... EVER.

I wish I would have read the reviews before choosing this bank. We signed a floating cap, meaning that our interest rate could not go above 5.25 but when our construction would turn to permanent, it would go to the lowest rates at that time. If it would have converted yesterday (like it was gng to) the correct interest rate would be 4.25, but they're saying that we have to get our capped interest (5.25) because they no longer have the construction program anymore. I have a very close elderly family member who is 80 yr. old veteran. He has been waiting for a release document for four months now. This has placed a heavy financial and emotional burden on this elderly veteran. This and the horrible reviews of First Guaranty Mortgage co. Speak for themselves. Avoid this co.at all costs. A complaint to the Banking Commission is warranted.

Would like to make a comment about this company. I close my mortgage with First Guaranty Mortgage Corporation 10 days before hurricane. Then we got hit by Irma. I work in the vacation ownership industry and after hurricane the business shut down completely for 45 days then we finally begun to see few visitor. The volume of visitors, however, went down from 110 visitor a day down to 17 visitor a day. 5 months and still not closed. No title company in Michigan has ever closed a loan like ours. 4 title companies refuse to close loan. Really?

There should be a minus rating system for this organization. They have been jerking my friend around for months now. They want what they ask YOU for sent to them right away, but yet thier idea of "a timely response" from them is waiting days and sometimes weeks just for someone to get off thier ass and send a fax.
