I'm fortunate to volunteer at Elmbrook weekly. The staff and volunteers are dedicated and extraordinarily hard working The environment they provide for their animals is very caring.

It’s sad and disheartening that you guys would rather Mittens, a 4 yr old puppy mill dog, stay in a cage at the shelter instead of allowing her to be adopted into a very loving family. She clearly connected with us, and when you know you found the right dog it’s upsetting to be turned away because you have a cat instead of a dog. You are quick to judge that a cat would not be able to teach her the same way another dog would. You’re not even willing to let us foster her to try it out to see how she would flourish in our home.... read more

Business response:

Emma, We are sorry that you and your family are upset about not being able to adopt Mittens. We have a lot of experience working with mill dogs and they do have special requirements involved with their care. While we believe that you would provide her, or any other dog that you bring into your home, with a lot of love and care, she is required to go home with another dog. We would be happy to have you speak with our trainer, who has over 20 years of experience working will mill dogs, to discuss this further.

We adopted an 11 month old kitten from ElmBrook on 3/5/18. They were so wonderful to work with. We are absolutely in love with our little girl and she had no problem making herself at home. We are so proud to have rescued her. Thank you everyone from Elmbrook Humane Society!
