If there is a wait at this popular restaurant, order a classic margarita or a 'floater' and dip into the chips and hot sauce and/or queso. Before long, you will be addressing a plate full of the Tex-Mex standard of your choice. Or try any of the variations on barbecued chicken-the chalupas of this variety are especially tasty. Entrees make this a fairly inexpensive spot, provided you do not get carried away on the margaritas. The atmosphere is fun and lively, and El Arroyo has a sense of humor: Just check out the pointedly w... read more

My fajitas were crunchy, beans not cooked all the way, rice was bland and tasteless. Waitress didn't care at all. I was looking forward to a good meal on my first day off all month, and, as a chef, was severely disappointed with the quality of food and service.
I'm writing you five stars for all of the comments in the review section some people really need to research what particular things are before they post about them ... Aka sunny side up is NOT over easy ... You guys lol
The food is good but unfortunately the service is not. My co-workers and I ordered food from there today and two of us ordered tacos "ligera" which according to their menu means with avocado salad and fruit. We paid an extra $2 for the avocado and fruit but did not receive the avocado. When we called El Arroyo about it (after returning to our office with our food), we were essentially told that they were sorry but that was just too bad. In September a not for profit group I am associated prepaid El Arroyo 199.00 for an event. We cancelled with proper notice. I have called every week and stopped by El Arroyo twice with the receipt. El Arroyo has not returned one of my calls. Think long and hard before going to El Arroyo but they have stolen money from an organization and do not care!
As someone who worked in the service industry for 6 years, I have to say that was the worst dining experience I've been subjected to, witnessed or heard about. Our party literally discouraged every table that was around us to leave and were successful. Good luck in the future.
Good food and fun advertising. I always try to make a stop when I'm in town.
This is an Austin classic, and they have always gone above and beyond, no matter WHAT walks thru that door (college student in a horse mask, not kidding) Thanks, guys! Keeping Austin Weird and great food to boot! Patrick is a lifesaver!!
Visiting from PA and first time coming here they denied my friend service. The bartender, a blond girl, was completely stubborn and obtuse. #byeFelicia I'll be glad to leave Austin if it means I'll never have to come to this place again!! #soRude #ElArroyoSoWhite
