Lunch Special is Special – Great fish at a great price and served with a smile. Nothing fancy about this place, but for the sushi lover on the go you can't beat Echigo.
when food is this good i don't care about ambience. anyhow, it's nice to eat without distractions or a scene. echigo is the best for traditional sushi. cdbaby is out of his/her mind. the fish at echigo is the freshest and the rice is awesome. maybe he/she and 3 friends are just used to california rolls. i'd like to know what some of the 100 places they've eaten at are. i don't know what ibuki's deal is. all my friends love echigo (including friends from japan). some things may be new style but it tastes amazing-that's all th... read more
Fish lover's paradise – It's all about food here. The decor is minimal(and not in a designy way), service above average, but the fish pretty much melts in your mouth. If you are looking to eat good sashimi, this is the place.
nice fish but poor rice – Went to Echigo last Thursday eve after reading the raves here on Citysearch. But all 3 in our party were very disappointed at the sushi overall. The fish was very good, (one step short of "great"), but the rice fell apart for everyone. I've never seen anything like it. Any attempt to pick up a piece, whether with chopsticks at first or fingers, sent the halves plopping onto the plate. I've eaten at probably 100 sushi places from Japan to NYC to California, but never encountered sloppy rice like this... read more
Sasabune, watch out! – After reading all the reviews, particularly the comparisons to Sasabune, I went into Echigo with high expectations. Toshi san did not disappoint! Every piece he gave us was a piece of art - a perfect serving of the freshest fish atop warm rice that melted in your mouth. I couldn't get enough! I loved that each serving was one piece, as it allowed us to try a wider variety of fish. Echigo is definitely comparable to Sasabune in the quality of fish and the Tokyo style sushi, but that is where the paralle... read more
Perfect sushi – If you are looking for amazing sushi- perfect texture, flavor and freshness- this place is it. We stumbled into this find a few months back and have not gone to any other sushi places since! The atmosphere is laid back w/o gimmicks or flash. Just perfect sushi and reasonable prices (it's not a bargain but you really get your $ worth). Plus, the chef and his wife are so gracious and sweet! Our new favorite restaurant.
best sushi on the west coast – Simply Amazing Sushi. Probably the best kept secret in Los Angeles. This is a serious sushi bar, and they serve traditional sushi only -- Tokyo style, with warm rice under the cold fish. It is a superb experience which I highly recommend.
Best sushi I've EVER had!! – Simply amazing. I'm a sushi lover...I've been to restaurants all over California, and the quality of fish at Echigo is the best. If you're feeling adventurous and have time to enjoy a good meal, sit at the sushi bar & try the chef's choice. You'll LOVE the experience. Toshi san is creative and attentive with his food, and I have no complaints. Simply the best sushi at a fair price. It's not a trendy place, or even fancy; it's calm and the food is to die for!
Great Sushi! – I believe that Echigo is on 12217 Santa Monica Blvd. (not Wilshire) west of Bundy between Bundy and Centinela. This place's sushi is surprisingly excellent. It's almost comparable to Sasabune but about $10-$15 cheaper for the Omakase per person. Don't be fool by the strip mall location or the plain decor (though very clean), this place has great sushi and services.
Echigo has a 4.6 star rating with 259 reviews.
Echigo is closed now. It will open at 9:00 a.m.
