Very Disappointing – After reading all the positive reviews, I expected Echigo to be excellent. It wasn't. In fact, Echigo is below average compared to sushi restaurants in this price range. The wasabi was runny and weak. The soy sauce was watery, and the sushi falls apart when you try to eat it. Overall, if you like quality presentation and fresh fish, look somewhere else.
Best in LA – It has to be the best sushi in LA, maybe because it is a little different and VERY authentic, handrolls and sushi/sashimi only. The rice is warm and DIVINE but does fall apart, who cares though? Get the "chef's special" and you get to try a little of everything, nothing too outrageous though. A COMPLETE GEM.
Sushi Please! – If you are looking for Teriyaki Chicken or anything else from the kitchen; this is not the place for you. The establishment only serves sushi, sashimi, and a few rolls. If your in the mood for sushi, this is probably one of the best places in town for it. The sushi just melts in your mouth although the sushi rice was a little overpower by vinegar. The portions are small to average, but you forget all of that when you bite into it. Decor is very simple and if your looking for ambiance, look somewhere else.
Marginal at best – The sushi cuts were small and not particularly tasty, while the soy sauce and wasabi were terrible. I found the warm rice distracting from this fish.
A Wonderful Shock – Buttery fresh sushi that melts in your mouth. Utterly shocking. I was 2 hours early for a massage appt. across the way in the same dumpy complex and I literally accidentally stumbled into this ugly place on an early Monday night. It was completely empty and I cautiously walked in. There were no other patrons and I reluctantly sat at the sushi bar expecting a mediocre meal. The sushi chef served only myself as two obseqious waiters attended my every mouthful of pure delight. To my utter shock it was some o... read more
OK – the sushi is very good, but the service is horrible. the chef is rude and is one of the waitresses. also, the hours of operation are incorrect. they say that they close at 10 pm, but in reality they stop serving at 9:30.
melt in your mouth sushi – went during the week for $10 lunch special. they only offer lunch special and a la carte. the sushi was melt in your mouth fresh. they only serve sushi + sashimi. there is no cooked items on the menu.
UNREAL! – On a weekend visit from NY, I checked Citysearch to find the best sushi in LA. I've had sushi in LA before and have been very unimpressed... Echigo blew my mind away! Every piece of sushi was rediculously good! I tried nearly every item on the menu and it would be hard to rank them... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... even by a NY sushi snob!
Sushi almost identical to the equally excellent Sushi Sasabune. Great sushi, still on the pricey side, but better decor and less of a wait than Sasabune. Come during lunch for the affordable lunch special.
