Amazing Sushi – The quality of the sushi here is one of the best I have eaten - in LA, SF and NYC. The rice is warm and the wasabi is right off of the root. The sushi is very similar to that of Sasabune...the head chef used to work there. The blue crab roll is something unique here and very good. The ambience is nothing special but you come here for the food.
My favorite sushi place – the fish is fresh, the rice is warm, the ginger clear, and the price is right.
Stellar sushi served at reasonable prices with no frills or fuss. – The Scene Located on the second floor of a shabby Westside mini-mall, Echigo's solicitous servers smile but barely speak to the intrepid few who have found this latest star on the sushi horizon. As the simplicity of white walls, black tables and one artful fish painting make clear, the focus is on sushi not ambience. The Food Chef Toshi apprenticed with Sushi Sasabune's Chef Nobi, and the student may have bested his master. Sit at the counter for chef's choi... read more
yummy! – Echigo is on the "pricey" side, but it is WELL worth it. The fish is GREAT, the rice is warm (which is different, but DELICIOUS), and the service is great as well. For those not looking to spend a lot of money, go to Echigo between the hours of 12p-2p M-F for their $10 lunch special. You get Yellowtail, Tuna, Salmon, White Fish, Albacore and a blue crab roll. It will definitely fill you up...and if it doesn't, get 2 lunch specials! Their blue crab roll is DELICIOUS as well...MUST TRY!!!!!!! i'm craving some right no... read more
One of the best – If you don't mind eating where no one is then this is your place. The rice is warm and glutinous and the fish is unbelievable.
Authentic sushi lovers only – fresh good sushi, but just a bit over priced for the size of the sushi. try there stuffed squid and ankimo sushi if you are a squid lover. the ankimo sushi was awesome, it was hot served over rice, never had hot one like this before, this is simply the best!
Excellent fish, but... – As another reviewer stated, the rice could be a lot better. It's almost impossible to lift a piece of sushi without the rice falling out from under it. The fishes though... there are many species you can't find in other restaurants. This restaurant is worth visiting just to try something new. The restaurant is a little too cold. Make sure you bring a sweater or long sleeves. The $10 lunch special is a *much* better deal than dinner.
Simply exquisite! – Echigo is quite simply the best sushi restaurant in Los Angeles. Their fish is magnificent, and presented beautifully. The chef is very innovative, without trying too hard. The decor is fine, nothing fancy, but not shabby either--it is cool, serene, and relaxed. This is the kind of place you could go for a special occasion (the food is that good) or just relax on a weekday night. RUN, don't walk, to Echigo, and let's hope they stay around for a long, long time. I've tried 'em all, in the valley, westside,... read more
Best sushi in town – If you like California Roll, this is not the place for you. Non-pretencious atmosphere. Superb sushi and sashimi. Once you try it, you keep coming back.
