Each patient is unique, therefore, each patient needs to become an expert in their disorder or cancer in order to make a decision that is best for them. I prefer to meet with my patients at the end of the day or arrange a conference at off hours, to allow as much time as a patient needs to fully understand their options. At the end of this conference, I prefer the patient return home and think about our discussion before making a decision. I expect them to have discussions with their primary care doctor or any friends or fam... read more

I was diagnosed with stage 1 low risk prostate cancer 3 years ago when I was 72 years old. Before I had my first visit with Dr. Johnston, I decided I wanted surgery to remove my prostate. But during my first visit, Dr. Johnston carefully discussed with me the benefit and risk of various treatments given my age and health history. I thought about our discussion for a week and decided I wanted watchful waiting as my treatment since for me the benefit is high (quality of life) and the risk is low as long as I have regular follo... read more
Very patient and answers all of my questions. My surgery went very well and I’m healing nicely. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Johnston was great throughout the entire process of my prostate removal, from pre-surgery planning and preparation through the post-surgery personal calls and follow-up. If you need to have yours removed, I highly recommend Dr. Johnston!
Dr. Johnston and crew removed my prostate in February 2022. My numbers and exams indicated this was necessary. After surgery I wore pads (diapers if forced to sit or drive for stretches of over 1 hour). After six weeks I have not used pads or diapers. As far a sexual function goes I advise you to do your homework and ask questions on: erection, ... read more
Excellent doctor diagnosed my prostate cancer And prescribed the right treatment. Cancer free. Surgery only took one day. Out of the hospital the next. Five years cancer free
Dr. Johnston performed my vasectomy. He made sure I felt no pain during the procedure and it was over in less than 20 minutes.
I suffered from a recurring fungal infection for almost a year before coming to Dr. Johnston. But when I visited him on my PCP's recommendation, he quickly arranged for a surgery in a nearby hospital. Now the surgery has solved the problem. Thank you Dr. Johnston. Thank you Michigan Institute of Urology.
I was the recipient of a high PSA score from an annual physical (that was less than annual in recent years - cautionary tale) and was referred to Dr. Johnston. I came up with multiple reasons for why it couldn't be prostate cancer, but the numbers don't lie and a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis - prostate cancer. Dr. Johnston explained the options available along with the pros and cons of each, and my decision was for surgery. I did the needful to be in the best physical shape for surgery as well as to prepare for new realiti... read more
