Dr.Niren literally saved me from the wrath of Cystic acne. His treatment is top notch. I would highly recommend Dr.Niren and his staff for people who have been trying to get rid of stubborn acne for a really long time!
I typically only leave reviews for positive experiences I've had (I'd rather use my energy towards good things). However, I had such a terrible experience with Dr. Niren that I'd like to dissuade future patients from seeing him. When I met with Dr. Niren, he spent little time with me (looked at my skin for perhaps 30 seconds) and was very rude in speaking to me. When I asked him which medications he was writing down/prescribing, he cut me off and told me that I could ask the nurse once he left.
Dr. Niren is excellent. He may be abrupt when there is nothing more medically to add to the conversation. On occasion, he does offer advice that is not related to the visit but may help you. He is unwavering in his well informed knowledge, skill and advice. That said, the woman handling the phones and paperwork needs replaced. Don't physicians track that they have to accept new patients because their staff loses them? Customer service is as important as treatment.
Dr. Niren - excellent Appointment scheduling and phone availability Poor Wait Time - extended but ok Billing - poor; continues to bill from UPMC and not check the patient's insurance company.
I am no longer a patient with Dr. Niren. This is not because of him - I was actually quite happy with how he handled my skin problems, and he was good about recomminding cheaper sources for the prescriptions, too. However, his staff are TERRIBLE! Calling in for prescription refills was a nightmare - they don't answer the phone, they don't return calls from the pharmacy, they say they have called in refills but they really haven't, and on and on. Finally I gave up - not worth it!
Long story short. Found the person answering the phone needing to exercise her listening skills. Found Dr. Niren unresptive to discuss medications/treatment. I would describe him as being defensive which translates to trying to bully patience. And best of all, During the bullying session I found out I was taking too much antibiotics. Found his assistant to be extremely helpful and very good listening skills.
Called today to schedule an appointment. The women who answered the phone was extremely rude. I asked if they took my insurance and she responded "You will have to check on the card because we only take a certain kind of that insurance". So I said ok let me check my card. Immediately she said "ok hurry because I don't have much time". Struck me a little funny but I continued to make the appointment. She told me the day of the appointment and I asked her what time. She said "I already told you 1:30" WOW! So rude, and she hadn... read more
Horrible!!!! The most unprofessional person I have ever met!!!!
I'm almost done with arrest meant for my skin and so far I am very pleased with the result. Dr. Niren was the first dermatologist to suggest this route for me and I'm so glad I was referred to him. I will continue to see him even when I am done.
