I met Dr, Birmingham in March 2019 and scheduled knee replacement surgery for May 8, 2019. I have been totally satisfied with the surgery! The surgery was on May 8th and it went so well I was able to go home on May 9th. He did an amazing job, as of May 23rd my knee is already doing excellent. I am walking smoothly, my knee is already bending more than 90 degrees, my PT has been is going so well, I can do stairs easily, one at a time, but no issues.
What skill! I can not say enough great things about Dr. Birmingham. OrthoVirginia is lucky to have him. I met him by chance. He was filling in for another surgeon who was going on vacation. While there in the hospital I needed surgery, and he gave it. He actually "conferred" with my partner and me and we understood. I hope he keeps his "freshness" in an established practice. He speaks out and discusses what he would have done differently had he known the history and had the surgery to do over.
Not all doctors who have become expert at joint revision also keep their general orthopedics specialty going. Dr. Birmingham who more seriously did a hip revision for me last year, was able to handle a broken ankle I got recently. I am just at the stage of physical therapy, and I am pleased with his surgery. I saw Dr. Birmingham after I injured both of my knees at work. He is very knowledgeable, respectful, and has excellent bedside manners. He is very professional and listens to his patients concerns and answers all questions. Would highly recommend!
