My wife was diagnosed a brain tumor, and we were fortunate that she was referred to Dr. Merkow. He is an outstanding neurosurgeon. His explanations of the issues and options were thorough, and we felt very well informed. In addition to his technical excellence, he is personable and has a genuine interest in the long term well being of his patients and their families
My neurologist referred me to Dr. Merkow after I had been experiencing migraines and visual changes for a couple of weeks. Dr.Merkow came to us from heaven. After being admitted to John Muir Emergency with a fractured neck from a recurrent of Breast Cancer my Wife and I had no idea of what options were available for Her As did the emergency staff. In March 2019 Dr. Merkow performed a 10 hour surgery to fuse vertebrae L4, L5, and S1. He secured the vertebrae with rods and screws which was difficult because of my advanced osteoporosis.He also did a laminectomy to decompress the nerves that had been causing sciatic pain for years. He replaced a disc and some pinched nerves. The most amazing result of the surgery was lack of pain. It was like a miracle. Dr. Merkow is an amazing surgeon!!! When my 88 year old father fell and broke his back he was in bad shape. He had to be transferred to JM Trauma, where we met Dr. Merkow. He gave us 2 options, surgery with a 90% chance to walk again or he would be paralyzed. He did spine surgery, minimally invasive, in September. 6 months later, I'm back to my normal activity with minimal or no pain. He has been very compassionate and excellent in explaining things.
Very knowledgeable and thorough. Malignant tumor removed and ready to go home the next day was unbelievable
Dr. Merkow is not only a very skilled neurosurgeon, he is very patient and kind. His approach involves the patient and the family. Answers questions throughly. I would recommend him highly if you are looking for a neurosurgeon.
