I went in for spine fusion procedure L4, L5 lumbar. I was nervous but had faith in the entire team at John Muir in Walnut Creek.As I recovered Dr. Merkow and his Assistant Taylor greeted me and Dr. Merkow had a brilliant smile that lit the room with perfection.He must have known he performed the surgery like a true master.I have never felt better, the sciatica and numbness in lower body are COMPLETELY cured. Brilliance! Outstanding results from my back surgery! This was one of the best decisions I could have made. I found Dr Merkow to be very caring, understanding ,patiently explaining the procedure and the result. I am no longer in any pain. Amazing! Dr. Merkow not only saved my son's life once, but he also did it twice in a six-month period of time. My son was very lucky to have been in the emergency room at John Muir Hospital, WC when Dr. Merkow was there and attended to him. Post-surgery, I read up on Dr. Merkow and visited with him. Compassion, competence and patience with questions from patients are the best characterization of the people in this office. If I ever (or anybody I know) needs to have brain surgery I know where to go!
Dr. Merkow's office assistant was absolutely arrogant, rude, and unsupportive. I never had an experience like this before!
I was referred to Dr. Merkow by both my primary care and my specialist for worsening low back pain. It was evident in every interaction with the front desk, Ehsan Ejaz (physician’s assistant), and Dr. Merkow that his practice is dedicated to excellence. Dr. Merkow provided expert care and treated me with the utmost compassion, kindness and respect. I feel fortunate to have found him and would highly recommend him without any hesitation.
I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Merkow. I needed 4 & 5 fused. He took his time explaining everything in great detail and was very compassionate about my problem. I have been living in pain for many years so when he said there would be a 75% chance of it working I decided to finally have it done. It was the best decision I have ever made. I have been a very active person all my life and now I can do all the things I used to do. I would highly recommend Dr. Merkow.
