Dr. Brooks was wonderful and quick in diagnosing my IBC. She is very knowledgeable and a very skilled and gentle surgeon. (I had a double mastectomy and received not one bruise and the incisions were beautiful). My only complaint, she underestimates recovery from surgery and wanted me to have my double mastectomy at Los Robles Surgicenter, in an out-patient setting. Thank goodness, that did not happen! If you are getting a Mastectomy please spend the night (23 hours is still considered out-patient) at the hospital. You will ... read more
Very very nice doctor. She feels for her patients like they're family. Once in a while, I call her up with questions about my husband, because I trust her more than his doctors. And she talks to me and gives me good advice, and he's not even her patient! It's too bad she's not the kind of specialist that can treat his problem.
As another poster noted, Mai Brooks was banned from doing clinical research at UCLA for four years, after falsifying research data in a cancer study cited in The Lancet (Google her and you'll find the article from The Scientist magazine). She also provided false data to the NIH for a grant. While she may never do this again, my experience with her is that she wants bad outcomes to go away and everything to be fine. She'll claim you'll recover considerably sooner than other doctors will agree and when I needed to go to the E... read more
I was referred to Dr. Brooks due to lump found in my left breast and was told by my GP to have her do a breast biopsy. During the exam Dr. Brooks felt another lump and stated she would perform a needle biopsy. She stated she wanted an ultrasound I explained that I had one done already. Luckily I had my copy with me. She brought me to another waiting room as she reviewed the ultrasound and mammogram, she came out and said you don't need a biopsy. Literally in tears, she tells me to take motrin for the pain and to rub Vitamin ... read more
Dr brooks is tremendous! I couldn't believe it when the radiologist called me and told me I have breast cancer. Nobody in my family has breast cancer. My mother in law had it and it was scary. My husband, my sister and my 2 kids went to my appointment with me. She's actuarially the second surgeon I saw. She seats everybody down and talked to everybody, she answered my questions and everybody else too. I felt she really cared for ME, I knew then I wanted her to do my surgery. I now had my surgery, everything was better than I... read more
My mammogram showed a white mass on my left breast that needed to be tested according to my GP. I was very unsettled. I have three young children and a husband who travels for his job so I had all sorts of horrible thoughts. I wanted to get the test done immediately and so my GP called Dr. Brooks and she agreed to see me late that afternoon. Luckily I was able to arrange for my sitter to come over on short notice. Dr. Brooks calmed me down and arranged for me to have a biopsy done the next day. Another agonizing day past wai... read more
Dr. Brooks was great. She helped me through a tough time, to face my cancer and to survive it. After my primary called me to tell me my biopsy result, I think I was in denial for at least a week. I went through the motion, getting this test done and that blood done, but I was hoping somebody would tell me there was a mistake and I really don't have cancer. Dr. Brooks talked to me and my husband, explained things and went over my choices for surgery, the benefits the risks, etc. I called her late at night in a panic, and she ... read more
It was very easy to make an appointment to see Dr. Brooks. The office staff and nurse were friendly and accommodating. I did not have to wait long to see the Dr. and there were plenty of magazines in the waiting room to help pass the time. I went to see my dermatologist because of two dark moles on my back. As a young kid and teenager I spent a lot of time in the southern California sun without wearing sun screen so I was concerned about whether the moles were cancerous. My dermatologist scraped the moles and got unclear res... read more
This guy is a cyber bully! Let me tell you about the Dr. Brooks I know. This year was horrible for me, 20 thirteen really unlucky number. I lost my job. I lost my insurance. Dr. Brooks saw me for FREE! My operation cost me a fraction of what other surgeon offices quoted me (I suppose she has to pay the rent and the help). She is an ANGEL !!!
