I found Dr Kernen to be friendly and courteous..... and I believe him to be knowledgeable,... but seemed to be more interested in "landing" the surgical procedure than with my actual recovery. He did not reveal some significant side effects to the surgery (which based on my questions, he knew to be important to me) and did not schedule pre surgical exercises that others in their office said would have helped with my recovery/rehabilitation. Lastly, post surgical monitoring was very poor.
Dr. Kernen is one of the best in his field. He is respectful of his patients ( and keeps to his schedule). I have complete confidence in him and am grateful that he was recommended to me.
Dr. Kernen is always up on the latest treatments in the field, but at the same time, he takes the individual patient needs into consideration before doing any procedure, even one that though it sounds good, may make the condition worse and advises the patient of this. I appreciate this in a doctor.
Dr. Kernen listens carefully to chief complaints, maintains eye contact and is more than comfortable discussing alternatives of treatment. Additionally, he will provide you with supportive information as to why he chooses one modality over another.

I have been seeing Dr. Kernen since Feb. 2011 and he has performed seven surgeries on me and I found Dr. Kernen to be extremely kind, knowledgeable and a very caring physician/surgeon. I have handed out his business card to friends that are searching for an excellent physician and have talked with friends regarding my experience having Dr. Kernen as my physician. He has been very helpful in explaining my health situation and is always very encouraging during my difficult health problems.

After nine years with Dr. Kernan, we have never meet such a friendly, competent and helpful physician. Despite the terrible reason for being his patient, it is always a pleasure to be in his care. He is compassionate and treats you as if you are his ONLY patient.
Always conservative and cautious. Explains the reasons for my state and proper treatment options. Cares about my wellbeing and always asks if I understand what we have discussed. He is genuine and everything I look for in a physician.
