About this business

We believe that mental illness is a treatable condition, but Dr. Wassef does not believe in using benzo's for that treatment due to the side effects and long term effects they have on the human brain.

I was treated by Dr. Wassef during my stay at the ETMC Behavioral Center. During my stay, he threatened to commit me and send me before a judge to spite me when I requested discharge, misdiagnosed me, ignored me during our appointments when I was speaking to him, and even put me in danger by denying and ignoring the very serious side effects I experienced while taking the medication he ordered. Should you ever find yourself a patient of his I would strongly advise that you seek another doctor.

Dr. Wassef literally changed my life. I had struggled with depression and anxiety for years and had been seeing primary physicians for years and trying different meds with no real results. I saw temporary results, but was in denial about my diagnosis and didn't fully trust them because they all wanted me on meds. Dr. Wassef explained things to me and made me come to terms with my situation and referred me to a therapist who was also wonderful. highly reccommend him.

Dr Wassef’s office called to schedule an initial consultation. The woman immediately launched into what felt like an interrogation asking my husband if he took any drugs like Valium or Ativan because the doctor would not be prescribing any. Then she said she needed a credit card number to keep on file so they could charge us $150 if my husband canceled an appointment. My husband has bipolar disorder, vascular dementia and has been sober for 25 years. Needless to say, we didn’t make an appt.

He just shrugged & said he didn't know anything about the symptoms I was describing and said that it wasn't possible for me to be experiencing them and that since he didn't know anything about it he couldn't give me any answers & wasn't going to delve deeper to learn more about them. He asked me questions but wouldn't wait for my response and would talk over me every time I would ask him a question for clarity. Courtesy and an open mind go a long way, unfortunately he was lacking both.

The office staff seemed very friendly when you speak to them on the phone, especially Kelly she seemed to actually care about me and my well being. But as for Jean at the front she is rude and very hurtful my daughter missed an appointment and she when I called she told me she would be dropped from services, she seemed to almost enjoy telling me this. She stated my daughter had been warned in the past and that is it, office policy no exceptions. My daughter has seen Dr Wassef for years.

I started seeing Dr. Wassef in my early 50s and have been amazed at the difference his treatment has made! Diagnosed with adult ADHD, I feel like a switch has been flipped and suddenly see things in such a different light! It’s like a miracle for me.

His receptionist has no business working in a psychiatric setting. There are no calls for appointment reminders. I called into the office and she wouldn't tell me when my next appointment was.and because I missed an appointment and didn't make another within 2 weeks, the doctor dropped me. When the receptionist told me this, she was particularly nasty and condescending and seemed to relish it. Because of this, I've been without medication now for four months. Doctor only cares about your money.

I think Dr. Wassef is a great dr although he is strict. He has a bad bedside manner so I would not recommend if somebody is looking for empathy from a dr. After years of struggling with medications Dr Wassef was able to find something that works for me. The only downside that I have is that I feel like he does not spend enough time with patients.

Dr. Wassef doesn't have your best interest at heart. He only listens to his own counsel, and will disregard your opinion and your past medical history. There are a lack of psychiatric options in East Texas in general, but I cannot recommend him at all. He is rude, doesn't let you speak, and will diagnose you with something you don't have to push his agenda. For the sake of your health seek someone else.
