Dr. Barber's philosophy focuses on the importance of providing every child with active love, understanding and respect. He believes children come into this world perfect and an engaged, loving and properly supportive caregiving parent is fundamental to healthy parenting. Parents who know how to recognize and relate to their own emotions and the emotions of their child find understanding and acceptance for both their actions and the behaviors of the child.

Years ago, after seeing Dr. Barber to confirm the diagnosis of Asperger's for our son, we got out of his office horribly depressed about the future of our son. The doctor made a long list of things he would never be able to do. Well, our son is now a grown man, and while he has some things he struggles with (like most people), he has two college degrees, has a job, is liked by people because of his kindness, drives in a city, plays two instruments, volunteers his computer skills in a socially active group, and has a wicked s... read more
He was extremely hostile when we asked him questions, despite being prompted to. On numerous occasions he failed to properly diagnose our children, going so far as to refuse to test our child for asthma until we received a letter from his preschool demanding he do so (Turns out it was Asthma). If you value your children go nowhere near this man.
For 1/2 hr they sat in a room without any books or distractions, merely medical equipment they were not allowed to touch. They were hot and cooped up and without an apology for keeping us waiting, he told my kids to sit and be quiet and physically placed them in their chairs. My kids were so woundup at that point they didn't listen to him and he was very irate about it. Told me to get a professional in the house to communicate with me via headset to tell me how to handle my kids when bad.
Dr. Barber is an excellent pediatric neurologist. We were relieved to find him. Living as we do in a rural area, we thank God for his expertise! Dr. Barber is very knowledgeable re:ASD &ADHD. He also maintains a blog to help parents. During appts, he encourages parents to voice memo the time so we don’t miss anything discussed! No doctor does that! He is very direct and encouraging, but he doesn’t sugarcoat issues. It is refreshing and honest. I wish all were like him! Highest recommendation!
Dr Barber was very rude to me and my child. He was very impatient with my child and he degraded me to the point that I actually started to cry at the appointment. I had never felt so worthless from a doctor and it was totally unexpected. I was expecting to be helped and informed on issues my child was having, but instead I was left feeling helpless and confused. Why is he a pediatric doctor if he has terrible bedside manner? I will request to never see Dr Barber again!
