DR. James McDowell has got to be the most Down to earth doctor i have ever meet. I have have to have any more surgeries. I will only Dr. Mcdowell do it!
I would give 0 stars if that was an option!! I got a major infection 2 days post-op. He stopped my antibiotics prescribed by another hospital saying “ you don’t get an abscess 2 days after surgery.” Well, I did. Had to be admitted to ICU, rapid response team had to be called. He acted like I did something wrong! Said I had a “minor” setback. Had to be admitted a second time because he sent me home with antibiotic that didn’t work on the bacteria the culture grew out. Worst experience ever!!
I was referred to Dr. McDowell and I am so glad I was. From the very start my experience was pleasant, my consultation was not rushed and i was able to ask all of the questions i had regarding my procedure. The day of the surgery he was extremely kind, while i was a ball of nerves. He talked through the things i was anxious about and even had me laughing before heading back for surgery. Dr. McDowell is one of the most compassionate doctors and you can tell he absolutely loves his job and his patients.
I had my first appointment the very beginning of 2024. It is now mid-June and I have yet to have any progress from them. Any information I DID get over the past 6 months has been because I tracked it down. I cannot warn you enough to stay away from The Surgical Clinic and this staff. I've never felt so disregarded in my life. I still to this day have not gotten any information for self-pay, insurance, nothing. It's infuriating. If I could get my copay back, I would. Dr. McDowell is an awesome doctor. He is a man of God who has a wonderful bedside manner. He cares about his patients, and I'm thankful for him. He will always be my doctor through my journey.

I really loved his bedside manner. I felt that he explained everything very clearly and cared about me as an individual.
He is amazing
He put a lap band in 13 years ago. Begin to give me trouble and bless his heart he took it out. Thank you so much Dr McDowell.
