About this business

I often remind my patients that even though I am a surgeon, I am also a patient. I understand full well when any patient is apprehensive about a needed surgery because I as a patient would (and have) felt the same way. My care philosophy is based on the simple idea that the care I offer my patient is the same I would want offered to my family member or to myself. In general, the smaller the operation that can be used to solve the problem, the better.

I took off work and waited for HOURS after my appointment time to see him. His receptionist was rude to me for asking how long it would be and told me this kind of a wait wasn't unusual. When I finally did see him and told him about the wait, he told me I was lucky to get to see him. I didn't feel lucky. He was a jerk. Immediately wanted to do surgery on me. I felt like an ATM to him and never went back.

What a wonderful, compassionate and highly skilled doctor! I love Dr. Benalcazar and would highly recommend him for anyone needing back/neck surgery. I work at the hospital and can tell you that he is the surgeon that the other doctors and nurses go to when they need surgery.

I agree with many of the comments regarding post-op assistance. The PA's are dismissive of any complains. Dr Benalcazar is a narcissist, very encouraging before the surgery and what a sales pitch. After surgery he became very rude with any complaints of pain, and basically told me either I was lieing or not putting effort into pushing his hands back, I told him it hurt but he dismissed it. They are horrible when it comes to keeping your information correct, they don't give accurate information. If you need anything after sur... read more

Dr. Benalcazar is a wonderful doctor. I had been suffereing from low back and leg pain for years. No other doctors seemed to be able to help me. I met first with the PA who was fantastic, very helpful and had a great bedside manor. My 2nd appointment was with Dr. B. After reviewing my films with me it was recommended I have a Minimally Invasive Fusion. The office staff was courteous and extremley helpful. I was a bit of a worry wart and they helped me all of the way thru. Everything from beginning to end was done in a timely... read more

I needed a multi level anterior fusion with PEEK. I saw three PA's and had MULTIPLE testing, (most of which was not necessary), prior to seeing the "Dr." He was extremely polite and caring prior to the surgery, but my post op care in the hospital was completely mis-managed. I was in horrible pain and the PA did not order appropriate pain medication. I was sent home the following day unable to lift my left arm. I didn't get the use of it back until many weeks later. It was nerve damage. On the last follow up visit I was asked... read more

Prior to surgery was understanding, helpful and optimistic about results. Had several post-op problems and his staff provided little help. Very difficult to reach him personally...multiple levels of office staff...secretary, office manager, PA prevent direct contact with this physician. Office sometimes did not return calls. Would not use him again.

I agree with another review...he is only concerned about making money, Real smooth in the beginning - 5 hours late for my surgery (have hear similar from others) and very rude and condecending if you tell him you're still in pain after the surgery. Very insensitive - hope no one treats his family like he has treated others.

Need L5/S3 procedure in 1999. Explained everything in detail (to the point where wife fainted from graphic description). Had me up and walking 4 hours after surgury. Good post-op care. Never looked back. Would use him again if I had to.
