I feel often that I owe my life to this man. I met him at 13, and saw him a few times, but he wasn’t able to take me on as a patient, b/c well—he’s the best psychiatrist in the state and probably the country (at least for eating disorders). I have seen him once since when I had a bit of a break down and he squeezed me in last minute. I’m quite sure that wasn’t easy but might be par for the course as a psychiatrist. He is a great listner. He does not try to sugar coat. He is straight to the point as far as your concerns. Does not talk to you like you're a child.
Absolutely the best psychiatrist I have ever encountered! Cannot say enough about his knowledge, care, empathy and overall experience with this man!

He knows his stuff. This unbelievable man is so incredibly wise. His sense of humor is refreshing when dealing with such a myopic, crippling ED. He truly takes the time to listen to his pts and values their voice in their treatment, which is a nice, needed change in psychiatry. Unfortunately the free ED group that he runs could use an uplift, as it is currently being run by an emaciated anorexic, which is nothing but triggering, to say the least. Despite that, Dr. S is a wonderful asset to the lack of ED care in the region.
Dr. Spanier is absolutely amazing. He cares so much for his patients that even when he pushes you, you know it's for the best. He understands the incredible challenge of recovering from EDs and he will take your hand and help you every step of the way. He knows how hard things can be, but he'll also help you find your own reasons for recovery. He GETS it. And his wicked sense of humor makes sessions significantly more enjoyable, even as you tackle some tough stuff.
