Exceptional MD. If you go during the middle of the day the office will make it it quite clear that they don't mind making you waiting well over an hour past the scheduled appointment. If you go at the very end of their business day you will find the wait times very short and the waiting area much less crowded. If you need retina evaluation or repair, Dr Vavvas is the "go to" doc in Boston. Too bad Health Grades does not have 6th star/golden buzzer option.

Dr. Vavvas is extremely knowledgeable, exhibits great concern for his patients, explains everything clearly, answers email questions immediately, and schedules follow-up checks and procedures until he is satisfied that your problems have been resolved.

MEE is quite a drive for me. Considering the I-93 traffic, it is tedious to show up for appointments, but I would show up everyday even with gridlock traffic, if asked to do so! That’s how much I love the way Dr. Vavvas treats his patients! You can ask all the questions about your eye, and he answers all of them kindly and you don’t feel rushed at all! I've been with Dr. Vavvas for over 10 years. He's kept my 30 year diabetic eyes in great shape. Has saved my vision at least twice and is easily a genius of a doctor. Just ask him! His secretary Katie is also the bomb.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Vavvas. He has supported and helped me through my retina detachments. He is kind and efficient. I feel completely confident with him and his staff and hope he stays at Mass Eye and Ear for a long, long time. I had an emergency retina detachment a couple of years ago and this kind man left his own holiday celebration and drove through a snow storm to perform surgery on me.
