Best Late Night Food! – My schedule is such that I often end up being hungry at 11, 12 or 1 in the morning, and the Doug Fir is the best place to go great late night food. They have a menu of actual food (not greasy bar fare), my favorites include the salmon chowder and the mac and cheese. It is reasonably priced and the service in the dining room is always friendly and prompt, despite the fact that it gets busy after the bars close. They also have a great happy hour with extremely reasonably priced food (prices drop to 2 or... read more

Taking log cabins into the 21st century – This place is great. Chill ambience, mellow atmosphere, stylish yet rustic at the same time. The food is OK. The downstairs venue is great for live music. One downfall is that the wait staff is terrible (not the bartenders!). Our waitress was rude, curt, unattentive, and rushed us out the door so that our table could sit UNUSED for the next hypothetical group that never materialized. Perhaps the other waiters are not the same way, but our waitress definitely valued the ability to ser... read more

Great place to meet – Went there last week before it got busy and had plenty of room to meet with business people. Had plenty of room to spread out our paper work. Food, service and atmoshpere was very good.

Mel gives great Mary – I have lived in Portland for five years. My partner and I had been to the Doug Fir several times over the years and to be honest, for all the hype, I was consistently disappointed. HOWEVER, about six months ago I discovered weekend brunch at the DF, and more specifically, weekend brunch served by Mel at the bar. I can scarcely remember the last time biscuits and gravy was this much fun. I have been there several weekends a month since then and fully intent to continue this new tradition. For those who ... read more

Avoid the weekend nights if your not into the club atmosphere, super fun people watching, tight bar staff – I travel to Portland at least once a month. My friends and I enjoy staying at the Jupiter as it is so retro and conveniently attached to the Doug Fir. I think everyone should give this bartender "Mel" a break. Actually, I look forward to her service whenever I go in there. The bloody marys are phenomenal and made true to the conventional recipe. Google it. They are made with Absolut Peppar (you might need to Google tha... read more

It Just Rocks! – I am always amused at the people who say they're going out to have a good time, when in fact all they do is complain about every little, miniscule detail about how something could have been better. Oh My God! You mean you went to a BAR and there were random conversations going on?!?! NO, it cannot be!!! Yes, you're in public. Most conversations that occur...ESPECIALLY in bars... are going to be within earshot of you no matter WHERE you're sitting. Get over it. I for one think those are the best times. You en... read more

Professionalism – I have been a customer at Doug Fir for several years. My wife and I come into Doug Fir weekly for an evening cocktail and lately have been coming in for brunch on the weekends. As a restaurant/bar owner myself I enjoy dining out as often as possible. I read City Search restaurant reviews weekly, not only my own but others similar, a smart business owner keeps in touch with his customers and his competitors customers. This morning I came across the negative review of a certain bartender at Dour Fir. I had to... read more
