With a menu full of flavorful dishes, all served without a pinch of pretension, Dosa has established itself as one of the top choices for those seeking a bite to eat in the Mission District. The menu specializes in South Indian dishes, especially in the restaurant's namesake dish, the dosa. In addition to the fresh samplings on the plate, this restaurant is also famed for its excellent wine menu, and the pairings that serve to bring out the best of both food and drink. Even with so many other restaurants in the area, DOSA is... read more

Overpriced and overrated – The food at this place is overpriced and extremely overrated. I see a lot of reviews by people saying this is the best Indian food in SF, but that may be because Indian cuisine is one of the SF food scene's weak points. The dosas here are average at best, the idlis are among the worst I've eaten (and at $7 a plate, probably the most expensive idlis in the bay area.) If you want to eat a good dosa, drive across the bridge to Vik's in Berkeley. You might have to eat it standing up, but you won't feel... read more
San Francisco Gem – Not only is Dosa the best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area it is one of definitely one of my favorite restaurants period! They have taken amazing cuisine (South Indian) and lifted it to another level. The food is not dumbed down and every course has amazing things to offer. They also have some amazing salads, which is somewhat unusual for the Indian restaurant. The spices are complex and fresh and create an unbelievable effect on every corner of your palate. The delicious wines are well selected and well... read more
Perfect blend: South Indian with a hip flavor – As the name suggest, a South Indian place with panache. 'Dosa' is definitely a class apart from the usual south indian places due to its great service, warm hostess, clever ambience and awesome food. I could smell the aroma as we entered the restaurant, which had a warm atmosphere and was crowded with people, as they were savoring the food. We were promptly seated on a Sunday night. The menu ranged with variety from the dosas to chennai chicken and an interesting wine menu. We ... read more
Delicious, affordable food + Great service = DOSA – Nothing makes me happier than delicious, affordable food and great service so this is why Dosa is my new favorite restaurant. I went there with a group of friends and Dosa got rave reviews all around. The space is casual and inviting. The hostesses were gracious and seated us promptly. We started off with a round of cocktails. I had the mango one and it was one of the best cocktails that I've ever had. My friends got the lychee ones which were great too. Our server was atte... read more
Great Vegetarian & Vegan Choices – My girlfriend and I are always in conflict about where to eat since I'm vegetarian (I try to be vegan) and she is quite the carnivore. Dosa has always been the perfect choice since it offers so many amazing dishes for both of us. They have an unbelievable choice of salads, which is very unusual for an Indian joint. Their South Indian Mung sprouts has a wonderfully delicious crunch and is fantastically healthy. My girlfriend always get the Prawn Masala and will not deviate from that. They al... read more
Funkiest Indian Restaurant with Best Food – I've been to Dosa about 3 or 4 times now and have always had a great experience. They were even very accomodating when some of my friends got wonderfully tipsy on the deceptively seductive cocktails. The food is to die for and vey, very well spiced and I should know because I grew up in India. I'm always surprised by how knowledgeable their staff is about Indian food considering none of them are. It does get a bit noisy at times but it definitely has great energy. Try the German Re... read more
Awful Management – We had a reservation for 8 people at 9-30 pm on a Saturday night and we reached there promptly at 9-15pm. We got our table EVENTUALLY at 10-40pm when everyone else had finally left. They have no notion of what a reservation means. The seating hostess had nothing to say except that people were refusing to leave after dinner. And the waitress was in so much of a hurry that she kept forgetting our orders and sometimes had to be reminded thrice to get a drink. She was also very impatient. The manager of the ho... read more
Wonderful South Indian food – Dosa is not your typical Indian restaurant-- they primarily serve Indian "snack" foods-- and the food is Delicious! The ambience is hip, though borders on loud. The wait for a table can be painful, but they accept reservations for groups of more than 8. The wine list is pretty good- they have some nice white wines that go with the spciy food.
Best South IndianNay, Best Indian Food in the Bay Area – Phenomenal! Dosas - the food - are served with Sambar - lentil sauce - and chutneys and Dosa - the restaurant - makes the best Sambar Ive ever tasted. I was told that they make the sambar fresh everyday and you can definitely taste it. The spices and flavors are absolutely perfect. They also have the best Rieslings Ive tasted in a long time and the pairings with the spicy food were excellent. I went for the Fred Prinz Riesling Kabinett which had some sweetness and a hi... read more
