With a menu full of flavorful dishes, all served without a pinch of pretension, Dosa has established itself as one of the top choices for those seeking a bite to eat in the Mission District. The menu specializes in South Indian dishes, especially in the restaurant's namesake dish, the dosa. In addition to the fresh samplings on the plate, this restaurant is also famed for its excellent wine menu, and the pairings that serve to bring out the best of both food and drink. Even with so many other restaurants in the area, DOSA is... read more

Terrible – When I saw that the Chron named Dosa as one of the top 10 restaurants of 2006, I almost dropped the paper. Sure, it's got the right location and the right clientele (Mission hipsters, anyone?) but the food is nothing short of terrible. The chai was awful, the bhatura arrived cold and deflated, and the tomato chutney tastes more like Ragu than anything you'd get out of India. I'll take the long wait and plastic sporks at Vic's anytime.
Delectable Cravings! – I went to Dosa three times last weekend. The manager or the owner was kind enough to let 6 of us in a minute before opening. I was craving great South Indian food and this place certainly hits the spot. It's casual yet very charming and the cocktails were seductively great that none of us could stop at one. Everything we had worked perfectly! My mate and I had to go back several times that week because once you crave the food there is absolutely nothing like it anywhere else. Everyone there was very wa... read more
Best Indian in the Bay Area – My favorite spot in the Bay Area. Much better quality than the hole-in-the-wall disgusting swill you get at most of the other Indian places all over the Bay Area. I'm South Indian though I grew up here, and I know that Dosa makes their food fresh everyday since you can certainly taste it. The owners are always wonderfully caring when I've gone there and the wine list is affordable and outstanding.
Delicious – I've never had South Indian food until I came to Dosa. It was a pleasant surprise. The lamb curry is spicy and flavorful. My favorite dosa is the masala dosa - so very creamy (potatoes, cashews, spices) - I wanted to horde it all for myself. The service is inconsistent - the first waitress we had was a doll, even on a super busy night but the second thought she was too cool for school and was more interested in gossiping. Overall, definitely worth a try! I plan on going back and getting the masala dosa and not sh... read more
The hype is TRUE! – What a treat this place is! I know it's good when I become aware while I'm eating that I am both so happy to have such deliciousness and also so sad it has to end! Please treat yourself to their masala dosa.
hours????????????????? – your citysearch site says you open at 5pm your receptionist (friday night at 5pm) when answering the phone says you open at 5:30????-frustrated
Overpriced and overrated – The food at this place is overpriced and extremely overrated. I see a lot of reviews by people saying this is the best Indian food in SF, but that may be because Indian cuisine is one of the SF food scene's weak points. The dosas here are average at best, the idlis are among the worst I've eaten (and at $7 a plate, probably the most expensive idlis in the bay area.) If you want to eat a good dosa, drive across the bridge to Vik's in Berkeley. You might have to eat it standing up, but you won't feel... read more
San Francisco Gem – Not only is Dosa the best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area it is one of definitely one of my favorite restaurants period! They have taken amazing cuisine (South Indian) and lifted it to another level. The food is not dumbed down and every course has amazing things to offer. They also have some amazing salads, which is somewhat unusual for the Indian restaurant. The spices are complex and fresh and create an unbelievable effect on every corner of your palate. The delicious wines are well selected and well... read more
Perfect blend: South Indian with a hip flavor – As the name suggest, a South Indian place with panache. 'Dosa' is definitely a class apart from the usual south indian places due to its great service, warm hostess, clever ambience and awesome food. I could smell the aroma as we entered the restaurant, which had a warm atmosphere and was crowded with people, as they were savoring the food. We were promptly seated on a Sunday night. The menu ranged with variety from the dosas to chennai chicken and an interesting wine menu. We ... read more
