Clay Oven Indian Cuisine is hidden in the corner of the Irvine Village Shopping Center, countering its strip mall location with elegant decor and phenomenal fare. Where other Indian restaurants are beholding to certain regional styles and traditional dishes, Clay Oven commands a flexibility in regards to its influences, incorporating unique flavors into otherwise familiar dishes. Goat cheese samosas, habanero vindaloo and paneer anardana, farmers cheese cooked in a pomegranate masala, are just some of the innovative flavors ... read more

Mixed Bag – I tried Clay Oven yesterday based on Citysearch reviews for Lunch, and found it solid, but nothing mind-blowing. We were originally planning on ordering individual dishes, but discovered that their Lunch Menu prices were pricey (Entrees ~$15-18!), adding in Naan and Drinks would've pushed us to easily ~$25 / person... for lunch. :( Take note. So we tried their Lunch Buffet instead ($9), and it was serviceable. It is a "buffet", but it was solidly prepared. Their Dahl (Lentil) was very good; the Spinach was ~Ok. A... read more
Really different experience – Went to the Clay Oven on a recommendation from people at work. I've been to number of other quality Indian restaurants in Orange County but I don't know how I missed this one. The last thing I expected to be impressed with was soup in an Indian restaurant, and that was just the beginning of the meal. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Fish Curry were terrific. The warm ambience and friendly service were a real bonus.
Good to be back! – We went back to the Clay Oven 5 years after moving out of the OC, and we're glad to see that some things don't change. The food was fantastic as always and the service was great. The host is so warm and wonderful and we regretted being away for so long. The lamb with figs dish is my new personal favorite after the swordfish. This place is definitely a cut above any other Indian restaurant in the OC or NYC.
Amazing Quality – Wow - Fabulous food, elegant service. It felt like dining in a friends home. The lamb shank dish was outstanding and cooked perfectly. The soup of the day was the best I've had in a long time. The intimate atmosphere and good wine definitely added to the great meal. We'll definitely be going again and again.
Awesome food – Best indian food in orange county without a doubt. Comparable to indian food in London and Africa. Those who have eaten indian in either know its better then indian food in India!. Excellent service.
Favorites – The service is exceptional and so is the food. This is my favorite Indian resturant in all of orange county by far.
Wonderful Find – We had dinner at the Clay Oven with another couple on Saturday night who had reccomended it to us. We were pleasantly surprised by the presentation, the excellent service, and the wine selection, not to mention the Tilapia curry which I can still taste!
Not the best Tikka Masala – The Tikka Masala here is not even close to the best. It lacks depth of flavor. The Tikka Masala at Mayur is addicting and absolute heaven.
