Dr. Shaver spent time with me in an unhurried fashion and had answers to my questions.He was interested in my past medical history beyond what I was seeing him for today. In other words - the whole person. I appreciated his willingness to listen.
Patient of Dr. Shaver since Dec 2022 for gastritis/GERD symptoms. After a negative H. pylori test, he performed an upper endoscopy and was able to find H. Pylori in the biopsy. I was treated for that diagnosis. Even after treatment and diet change, symptoms started getting worse in February. I also started having intestinal pain in my lower left abdomen. Disappointed. I was sent to Dr. Shaver by my doctor so he could take care of my stomach problems. I’ve had IBS for many years. It’s sad when a patient knows more about their disorder than the doctor. He prescribed a medicine that I told him I’ve tried and it didn’t help. Think he just didn’t know what other treatment options were available. I looked online and found many other options. I’m going to go to a doctor who knows what they’re doing. You should too.
I went to Dr. Shaver for a second opinion. He agreed with the other doctor about stopping my mesalamine, but he promised to prescribe me the medicine again at the onset of symptoms. About seven months later, I had an abdominal CT-scan done for kidney stones, which revealed edema in my Crohn's site. I forwarded the notes from the scan and explained the changes since my last visit. (Dr. Shaver's commitment as a hospitalist for Brookwood is a priority over his in-office patients.) Dr. Shaver performed a screening colonoscopy on my 86 year old grandmother. I believe his motives were purely financial given that current recommendations are to discontinue routine screening at age 75. HE TREATED MY LOVE ONE LIKE A PAYCHECK.
