This landmark of Asian-French fusion lives on with a cool setting and warm service. – In Short The eye-catching setting begins with a central bamboo tree opening into a dining space of black-tiled floors and slanted mirrors, and leads to a narrow covered patio. As the bar crowd keeps the buzz going, the waitstaff weaves around to deliver attentive service. Owner Yuji Tsunoda began his L.A. legend of Asian-inspired French cuisine in the '80s. Some of the most well-known dishes here are the signature rib eye steak in three-pep... read more
Great Food, OK crowd – The food here is great; blends of genuine, fresh Italian and Asian ingredients make the entire experience more than palatable. I'm not huge on the crowd, though many people here would enjoy it (it's just a little too far on the smug side). Definitely try the prosciutto appetizer! It is expensive, though.
spectacular food, good service – My friend and I dined on a Friday evening and were seated immediately in the patio, which is a tad cramped. Our server was friendly and quick and made sure that everything went smoothly. The menu is rather small (especially compared to the gargantuan menus of places like Katana), but the dishes all seem quite flavorful. I loved the Chilean sea bass and the miso-glazed tuna (?), which were both tender and well-flavored. The lobster roll truly is spicy and delicious, although pricey for rolls. ... read more
What a nightmare – Booked reservation for Valentine's day three weeks in advance only to be kept waiting an hour and a half after arriving 10 minutes early among a crowd of 20-30 people in the same situation. I wouldn't wish this Valentine's on anyone and I felt sorry for the poor saps who were sat so close to each other and constantly being pushed by the growing crowd waiting for their table. The ambience was horrible. There was nothing romantic about this and I'm sure many were infuriated. On the plus side the food was gre... read more
Best Lychee Martinis in LA – I love Chaya. The slingchis are the best in LA, the service is excellent and the fried calamari is very light and tasty. Leonard the Manager and the rest of the team is always friendly and make this Beverly Hills Brasserie feel like a high end "local" place.
Cooool! – As cool as cool can be! Loved the casual crowd in a formal atmosphere. Good looking people and great tasiting food. It is a 10 in my book(not many 10's in LA theses days). Unbelievable food and an outrageous happy hour.
Slick – The vibe in the bar and restaurant is great. It is very upbeat and hip. If your looking for the young and hip group, this is definately the spot. The food is out of this world and the service is very comforting. Everyone is so nice and not full of themselves like every place else in LA. The zagat is right about one thing. Go once you'll love it, go twice and become a regular where everyone knows your name.
A new experience – The first time I was there I was impressed by the decoration. The restaurant was upscale but felt like the crowd was more casual and relaxed. The service was outstanding. There was a very large crowd while I was waiting for my table in the bar, but that only shows how good the restaurant is. The food was really good. They offered a variety of wester food with Asian recipes. I really liked the smash potatoes with wasabi. The steak was very tasty and very juicy. It could challenge expensive steak houses. Yummy happy hour! – This is my favorite restaurant for happy hour. All of the staff at Chaya are so friendly, pleasant and efficient. They really make you feel special. The setting is lovely, with a lush Japanese-French ambience, and immaculately clean. The bar food is uncompromisingly yummy, in generous portions. Their dessert Banana Banana Banana is sublime. I wish that I could have happy hour here every night !!!
