This place sucks! The guy who owns the place is so rude and nothing but a drunk! My family and I had came in, and my dad asked if he could get gluten free pasta that my dad had brought with him, bc my father has silliack. Which is a sickness where you cannot have anything gluten, or he will get very sick. Not that this place has any care for their customers the owner came out and screamed at my father. Diana, As an establishment that has been serving food and drink to the public for 16 years we are quite familiar with celiac disease. In fact, we have friends and family members with gluten allergies. This is why we offer a variety of items that do not include gluten. Grew up in New Bern, this place used to be good but the last couple years the food has gotten progressively worse. Tonight when we made reservations for a going away dinner for a friend they placed us in the wine room. I had my twin daughters with me and asked me to leave the room when they cried because it wasn't a place for children. Well, we asked for a dinner reservation not wine they chose to seat is up there. That sealed the deal, won't be back.
Just had shrimp and grits for the 1st time and it was amazing!!
The food and service were absolutely Excellent..I highly recommend :)
Great pork chops we cant find a better one anywhere.
My son Brandon and his wife Trina took me and my wife there for lunch on May 25th, 2015. I wanted some sea food and I got steamed shrimp and calamari! Oh my gosh, it was delicious!! We ate on the roof and looked at the New Bern skyline. This was are first time in New Bern, NC and we enjoyed it. I would recommend Captain Ratty's to anyone that visits.
Poor service and lame excuses from owner Tom who was rude and condescending. It will be a long time before we return and certainly will not recommend or bring out of town guests here. They have been in business a long time. I am surprised with his demeanor.

There are two sides to every story. In my fifteen years of owning Captain Ratty's I have never been told I was telling a falsehood about the number of people I am serving in the restaurant. Stunned, I replied in an unpleasant fashion. Unfortunately, I wish I had accepted the insult more gracefully but I did not. This was personal about a place we have built from scratch and was not appreciated. All of the other 300 guests we served were very happy with our service, in spite of a full house. -Tom Ballance
I only give 4 stars because I have had wonderful experiences here in the past. This used to be my favorite place to eat. The last time I went the chips were stale and awful, the spinach dip was barely warm, the waitress didn't get our drinks right (I find lemons on my drink disgusting, many lemons through out the country when tested have had fecal matter on them..and she put a lemon on my glass when I asked for none), I had to ask multiple times for a cup of ranch, my drink ran out multiple times and other waitresses had to ... read more
