For years, diners were handed a limited menu when it came to Indian food and restaurants. They could choose either upscale, fine-dining establishments or low-end curry shops. There was no middle ground. Also, throwing a catered party with high quality indian food and service was non existant...

Wretched Service – I went to Cafe Spice the other night and we were one of three tables in the whole restaurant. Though it would seem like we would have great service on such a slow night, we were very wrong. The waitress was rude and couldn't answer simple questions about the menu. The food was okay- too much salt. And the cocktails were not very good. (When a waitress asks if you want sweet or dry vermouth in a gin martini you know the bar is not up to par.) Cafe Spice is mediocre Indian food with Friday's service. I wont ... read more
Great time – My roomate and I realized that we could receive points on our credit card by dining at Cafe Spice! We went to check it out and we were VERY IMPRESSED!!!! Big dishes with tons are flavor! I plan on going back, it was a great experience. The price is moderate, but worth every penny. The Naan is amazing and the presentation is well done.
great food, great service, awesome bar – i have been going to cafe spice for the past three years, but this year it has been at its best. the food tastes much better than the past few times i have been there. i love the bar scene on the weekends with the dj playing indian music. service is very friendly, even though you might have to wait little bit longer on the weekends for your food, it is worth the wait. food is made just the way it is cooked at indian homes, that is not to spicy.
Tasty Indian dishes and an earthy, modern setting bring a slightly exotic flare to Old City. – In Short From its open windows on Second Street, this extension of a small New York chain of swanky Indian bistros is sleek and modern, with earthy reds, greens and golds reflecting the menu's flavors. The menu offers an assortment of favorites, like samosas, kabobs and tandoori meats, but contradictory to the name, most are toned down for Western palates. Lamb vindaloo, however, packs a kick, as do lentils served with every entree... read more
Expensive for not-so-authentic Indian food – Very nice decor and large food portions. But, the quality of the food has gone from excellent to consistently below average. Its not even authentic Indian food. The drinks are great and they play good music. However, the price is not worth the food that you get. Definitely make reservations, or you may wait for quite some time.
Not so good Indian – I wish my first experience eating Indian went better! I decided on the Tandoori Mix Grill, which was not a wise decision. I received four pieces of dry chicken, one small shrimp, and one small piece of lamb. The lamb was good, but there was barely anything to taste. The service was also very poor. Not once did the waiter ask if we were interested in getting another cocktail. It took forever for them to remove our appetizer dishes and it took at least 45 minutes for our main dishes to come out. My friends... read more
Up in the air – The ambiance is nice, and I really enjoy that area of the city, but I found the food about average, and the drinks were just ok. Overall I'd say it was overpriced, and you'd find better Indian elsewhere.
Bad Food – If you enjoy food that tastes like it comes out of a can, Cafe Spice is the place to go. Passage to India may be a better option, where food is actually cooked in the restaurant. For decor, service and a much better wine list, in which Cafe Spice lacks in all of these, one is better off going somewhere else.
Execellent Bar Scene – I am in town for a couple of weeks and was craving something different. I had dropped in to this place on a friday night. Did not enjoy the music very much- lots of Indian tunes that I am not familiar with. However, the bartender saved the day-sarcasm personified!! Very knowledable about scotches. Came by on Saturday night since I had such a good time hanging out at the bar. The music was much better. The food was so-so. Had excellent drinks!! Service was beyond impeccable. Highly recommended for the b... read more
