some good things, some bad – Ate at this restaurant two times. Things enjoyed: Atmosphere, design, lighting. Problems: The first visit, I ordered lentils, which were severely undercooked. My friend's scallops were served cold. We also ordered a glass of wine each and were charged the wrong price for both. Additionally, we ordered a side of fries, which were delicious, but it came with a hair in it. The second trip still provided for good atmosphere and we were greeted with a friendly garcon. Our waiter, however, couldn't hav... read more

2nd Time Same Crappy Service and NO Poached Eggs! – So I have tried Cafe' Nell twice now. First was a quiet breakfast with a friend, only two other tables in the place and the service was crappy. Second time same treatment; wailer had the nerve to ask if the food was worth the wait. The food is nothing special, the environment is loud and the waitstaff is clueless. If you enjoy okay food with crappy service I suggest Cafe' Nell. Also, they need to figure out how to make poached eggs. Menu says "eggs any style".

Not worth it – I love when new restaurants open up in NW Portland, Cafe Nell was no exception. I went there with my boyfriend for breakfast and while the wait staff was pleasant and the interior is quite charming, that does not account for the fact that my 8$ pancakes were burnt as was the toast; his 3$ side of bacon was undercooked and then microwaved on one side when returned to the kitchen for additional cooking. The homefries, were crispy, only because they tasted like they had been fried in oil earlier in the morning an... read more

BEST SPOT IN NORTHWEST PORTLAND – .I've been going to Cafe Nell for about a year now. I absolutely LOVE it. Have eaten breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner, and brunch there. Always a good experience. It's quickly become my "go to" spot in the neighborhood. The staff is always friendly. The food is excellent and affordable. Only drawbacks are that it's been discovered, and sometimes gets really busy. And can get a little noisy.

Best Breakfast Spot in Northwest Portland – Some friends suggested I check out Cafe Nell at 20th & Kearney. Said the space had been redone. That it was very cool. And the food was excellent. I was skeptical, since I had dined there when it was Hurley's and was unimpressed. And thought "why bother". But I went. And I was shocked. The space was totally transformed from the dark, dingy place it used to be, to what feels like a spacious, but cozy light filled cafe. Modern, but comfortable and cozy at the same time. Cool fireplac... read more

Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Good food. Sunny and stylish. – Newly opened. I watched this place being gutted and rebuilt with great care. Great location. Not to far from 21st and 23rd, yet close to the Pearl as well. Friendly staff but no KA either - good. The food has been simple but good both times I've eaten here. They are open for breakfast. Also good happy hours.
