Don't Order Take Out! – Twice now, I have placed large lunch orders for my entire office. Both times, Buca completely lost the order...couldn't even find the paper that the order was taken on! OK, I understand that mistakes happen, but really, twice? And, they weren't even apologetic about it. The food used to be great but now it is mediocre at best. Too bad...
Terrible management, mediocre food, good server – We hadn't been in year - called on a Friday night at 6:30pm and the male manager said "totally open for 2, no wait!". We literally were in the front door 3 minutes later and were told 45 minute wait. The young girls manning the booth appologized even when we exclaimed we were upset that someone lied to us (bald male manager in the back was giving someone directions at the time - it was him as all the girls kept glancing at him. Fun Place, Great Food – Buca is like no place I have ever dined before (and it's not just because of the HUGE portions). You start out on a tour through the restaurant that begins in the kitchen! While it's a little unorthodox I find comfort in the fact that if they allow people to walk through it, the kitchen must be clean. I mean, everything is delicious in its own way, but these are their best items: chicken saltimbocca, chicken marsala, eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, linguini frutti di mare, tortelloni, mannicotti, chicken cannelloni, penne cardinale (not on the menu, but they will still make), pizza angelo, salmon w/ pesto, and fettucine supremo. Average Food, Silly Ambiance – Visited for a late lunch on 5-5-07. There were several parking spaces and no one waiting in the foyer, indicating quick seating. However, the host informed us that there would be a 25 minute wait. And he was right! While being taken to our booth (following a strange path through the kitchen) we noticed several empty seats and booths. So why the danged wait?! Family style Italian! – Buca is one of my favorite group dining places in all of Austin. To go to Buca and fully appreciate the food there, I recommend going there with a large group of 5 or more people! Their portions are EXTREMELY large and at a great price too! Remember not to order as if the food was served per individual, otherwise you will get much more than you bargained for! birthday dinners! – if you are looking for a great place with famiiar food for a celebratory event, definitely check out this place. everything is served family style so people can try multiple dishes. the wine flows liberally and the food is executed well. plan on staying for at least two hours. great pasta and chicken marsala. desserts are great too, especially since everyone "just wants a bite"
For The Great Time That You Were Least Expecting – Alright... walk in the door and you are immediately bombarded with the ostentatiousness of the decor. Tasty stuff ! – I ordered the sampler - quattro al foirno , manicotti , lasanga, etc.. plus the fried mozzerella , and bread ... it was good , the sauce especially was yummy and the ingredients seemed very fresh.
