Failed Experiment – We live a block away and have waited throughout the remodel for Bridgeport to reopen. We went tonight, and the first thing was to look at three menus and decide WHAT we wanted to eat before we could find out WHERE we would eat. We noticed that the PUB and BAR menus have the same selections in different order. Hmmm. We were sent upstairs where there was a line of people waiting to be seated and no staff to organize the masses. We left and went to the On Deck - Good food, great atmosphere, friendly, and not... read more
Another Loss to the Plague of Gentrification – Last Saturday a few friends and I decided to check out the new incarnation of a Portland favorite. Immediately upon entering it became clear that the Pearl had claimed another victim and in fact Bridgeport was no longer even a brewpub. The furniture appears to have been purchased from a Dania clearance sale, the bar is faced with uninviting (and poorly installed) marble tiles, and the sense of community is lost on the new trust fund clientele. When we finally got a table, our se... read more
Perfect Fit – I was a regular at Bridgeport for ten years. Saturday I returned for the first time since the renovation. Unfortunately, it now fits perfectly in the Pearl District. The decor is sterile and plastic; gone are the days of the inviting, warm & rustic interior. Operational changes are an equal disappointment. You have to look at three menus before even sitting down and then you can't get pizza in the dining room. The service is impersonal. Our waiter was inattentive and did not seem to know the menu very well. Tho... read more
Where did Bridgeport go? – I miss the old restaurant. It had personality, good food, and a great atmosphere. It is now a sterile copy of many of the other Pearl restaurants. 3 menus is just silly and the pizza that made it great is very average.
Misssing the old place – I understand why corporate owners of Bridgeport felt the need to remodel the brewery. The mark was missed in the ambience department which what the old brewery had in abundence. Black and chrome table and chairs clash with the sprit of the old hemp factory. The beer is as good as ever the bakery is a nice touch, however I can not get past the Portland modern attempt to be part of the Pearl.
OH Bridgeport...why did ya have to change??? – Since this resturant re-opened there is to be expected the few quirks that will need to iron themseleves out to survive. 2 of the 3 meals were cold. I was lucky enough to have the warm one. Food taste was what I expected it to be for the location and price. My gripe about this place is how the dinner menu was written. It seems some overly intelligent person wrote it because from the starter to the main course I really had not clue what I was ordering. Salmon Bacon?? What does th... read more
Shunned at the Door – My husband and I were really excited to visit the re-opened Bridgeport. Sadly we didn't wind up eating there and never plan to return. Upon arrival we were asked to decide between the dinner and pub menus. After some struggle in the dimly lit area to quickly decide what we wanted to eat for dinner, we chose the pub menu. This unfortunaley meant we could only sit in the pub -- a room equipped only with 3 foot stools. Being that we were there with our 15month old, we were pretty shocked they would suggest... read more
New Bridgeport not an improvement – Having been a patron of the "old" Bridgeport for 10+ years I eagerly anticipated the reopening after the long remodel process. What an disappointment! The new Bridgeport feels like every other Pearl-district bar/restaurant. What a loss for Portland! There are now three different menus to choose from, each equally inflexible ("no substitutions!") and uninspired. Based on our experience, I got a stong sense that Bridgeport is trying to "weed out" the old patrons, especially families with kid... read more
You've got to be kidding! – Bridgeport has been converted into an Upscaled Modern Industrial theme. The old rustic look if mostly gone, even some of the oversized support timbers have been cut through and left looking like severed appendages. Gone are the cozy nooks for a private beer and meal with friends. Instead, all areas are wide open, looking more like a demented school cafitera. It's loud and the is no privacey. There are three eating areas: Pub, Dinner and Bar areas. All have different menu's which makes things a lit... read more
