Best friends, Derrick Robles and John Latino, established in the Bongo Room in 1993, with the simple aim of offering people relishing breakfast and brunch meals, to kick start their day. With two more outlets in Chicago, this Wicker Park branch is where the story of Bongo Room began. The menu changes seasonally, so that guests are delighted with something new often and the best ingredients of the time can be utilized. But the Vegetarian Croissant Sandwich, Breakfast Burrito and Croissant Sandwich, that were featured on their... read more

Ho hum... – Yes the weekends are crowded, but guess what; most people go out for breakfast on the weekends.... Too crowded for too little. I've had better food at many other lesser known breakfast joints in and around the area. HUE and Leo's are a much better choice. Leo's is a dive with a great breakfast. HUE is traditional at best. A good brunch buffet, if you're up for that, and a fine menu to boot. Bongo? Naaaaa.... don't believe the hype... Only go if you into being seen, if you know what I mean.. L.P. crowd slumming it... read more
No Standing Zone – I've visited the Bongo Room twice and each time the service was awful. The food wasn't so good the first time, but the banana pancakes were great the second time. Once you eat, they come over and if you want more coffee, they'll give you a 1/4 cup and every 5 minutes come over to pressure you to leave. I wanted a full cup! I think 3 different people asked if we wanted anything else, even though we were still finishing up. We had only been there for about 30 minutes. I'd go again just to get the pancakes, b... read more
Banana Heath Pancakes! – We were visiting Chicago for five days and ended up eating breakfast here on two mornings. My son had the Banana Heath Pancakes w/sweetened marscapone cheese sauce both times. I snuck a couple of bites and they were my favorite. The pancake servings are huge, and 1/2 orders are available. Loved the mochas, the pumpkin spice pancakes, the twist on Eggs Benedict w/beef tenderloin and Bernaise sauce. Try the hashbrowns with melted monterey jack cheese. It perks them up a bit. I didn't get to try the Fre... read more
Great Creative Food – Been going here for a long time and I continually find that the food is consistent and some of the most creative breakfast food inthe city. Try any of the pancakes as the menu changes with the seasons. Also, any benedict with the outstanding hollandaise. Always top notch and at the top of my list. Keep it up, always a pleasure!
Great Breakfast! – If you're a fan of variations on poached egg, or decadent pancake creations, the Bongo room's a must. We've been there several times and always had quick, efficient service, and incredibly good breakfast food. The poached eggs with red peppers and feta is my favorite, though it's very hard to choose. Be prepared for a 30-45 minute wait, but there's a great bookstore next door that will make the wait go quick.
Bongo ain't Wrongo – What's with the negative reviews? My guess is that they went in on the weekend when it's super packed which is bound to affect service and comfort. I've only been in on weekdays and it consistently rocks. Any pancake dish is good and the portabello sandwich is a must for veggie types. My only complaint is that I wish they'd cut the sandwiches in half before serving cuz those suckers are sizable.
Worth the wait in line... – Nice ambience, friendly patient people, and the food is magnificent! Yes, there is always a line on the wknd, and it's a challenge at the very least to find a place to stand and stay warm simultaneously... but you're in Chicago! Get a coffee or tea, and hang out. Lots of eye candy/people watching to enjoy while waiting. Once you're sitting, it's a squeeze, though - don't come here for privacy. Great menu!!
Hmmm...SOOO GOOD! – I must admit that after trying out various breakfast spots all over the city of Chicago Bongo Room is the best! The decor is bright, fun yet welcoming; it'll catch your eyes and wake you once you step into the room. The menu is creative and fun. If you have a sweet tooth, try their pancake and french toast selections. However, if you crave "eggs" in the morning try creating your own omelet or the get the breakfast burrito, you won't regret it! Unlike other breakfast places, these omelets are never greasy ... read more
Looks Better Than It Tastes – Came here with a group while on a Chicago vacation and was fairly disappointed. Things started off badly with the coffee which everyone agreed was terrible--weak and tasteless. When the food came, it all looked good, and about half the dishes tasted good. The others seemed like failed experiments from cooking school--not absolutely terrible, but not really good enough to stop trying. Of the four breakfasts that I ate in Chicago (at four different places), my group thought that this was the worst... read more
