Dry and chewy meats disappoint – 2nd visit update: ribs & brisket were somewhat moist, still not smokey. ribs likely parboiled - yech! Meat was cold, while sauce on side was warm. Will not return again. 1st visit: maybe I shouldn't have gone near closing time. No ribs available. The combo of brisket and Memphis pork was served dry and chewy. The sauce, which I asked for on the side, was tasty and zesty and helped me eat up the dry meat. Coleslaw with raisins and potato salad were both good side. Overall - doesn't even compar... read more
no fuss – I liked this place. No fuss, just good bbq. I especially like the baked beans- not too sweet and nothing unusual floating around in it. The location was easy to find if you know what you're looking for. Lot's of food comes on the 2-combo! Couldn't even eat it all. So I recommend getting your order to go, so you can save some for later. It's also open on Mondays, when some of the other bbq joints are closed.
WOW the BBQ – Must say, Big nates IS the best I've had! Get the standard pork rib dinner with med or hot sauce and you'll remember it. I moved from SF to Chicago 4 years ago, and thought in a city like chicago I'd find great bbq. Thought wrong. I still go by big nates almost every time I'm back home in SF. BEST bbq sauce I've ever had.
polite service crew – i'd give a big plus to the service crew..they're very polite and helpful...good public relations..that's how all customer related businesses should be..very good example.
Not that TASTY – over rate and not that tasty boiling the meat loses the favor. Maybe a dry rub and apple wood could improve the tasty
BAD BBQ – Horrible BBQ. Small portions, overpriced. Stringy meats. Tasteless sauce. Not to mention the one time I went in there, Nate was there without so much as a Hello and thanks for coming to my place. DO NOT GO THERE.
The WORST BBQ EVER! – OH MY GOD! Do they smoke the ribs over burning tires? It tasted like it. The potato salad was bland, the cole slaw tasteless. Try adding some seasoning guys. I can't imagine anyone liking this crap. I've had shoes that tasted better. My company bought a whole mess of this CRAP, and everyone wanted to know where it came from so they wouldn't ever make the mistake of going there. That was the opinion of 30 people. Big Nates ought to be called CLOSED. did I mention the uncooked out of the can beans?
Big Nate's Rocks – It may not be the best BBQ in the Bay Area, but it's pretty damn good. Nice tasty sauce, good quality cuts of meat. Pork ribs are a bit fatty (what ribs aren't), but taste great, chicken and brisket are both very good. Plus, they deliver on weekends for ballgames, etc. Sides are weak, yeah, but that leaves more room for good BBQ! Relatively affordable as well.
Not good at all... – Read the other reviews and thought we would give it a try. Yuk. I lived in Texas and know BAR-B-Q (I am not FROM Texas, only lived there...so I am not one of "those" people). Everything is premade 100% so it is dry/gross. The only redeeming quality is the sauce...sorta. The sides are pretty lame and they give you (I dont know why) plain wheat bread with your order. Yuk. Throw in the corn bread for crying out loud. Then the service staff looks at you when you walk in like you are their first customer and ... read more
