The name's a bit misleading. Not only is there no ocean view, but this is not your ordinary diner. Though it has streamlined aluminum and black-and-white tile, and the fare is inspired by diner cuisine, the ingredients are the freshest available and the dishes are prepared with care and imagination. We have been coming to Bette's since it opened in 1982 and whenever I come home to Berkeley, breakfast at Bette's is a first stop!
I love this place. Great food and great service. Had the chocolate pancake souffle w a side of chicken apple sausages. Omg so good.
Banana soufflé is amazing. Light and fluffy. You need to try it.
Raisin scones are the best! Love how you cook the eggs - never over cooked! Pure perfection!!!
Tables are small and close together. It feels and looks like a diner. The wait staff was efficient but seemed very rushed. Water glasses were not refilled until I asked. My friend also asked for more coffee and our waitress did not bring it until I reminded her a few minutes later. We both ordered the Maryland Breakfast (corned beef hash with poached eggs). Fabulous as it has always been...have been dining there for thirty plus years. Never had a bad meal!
I highly recommend Bette's Oceanview Diner!!! Eeven if there is a long line waiting for a table (which by the way shows you how good this place is), they seat you really quick. And they bring you your order fast. We have had very good service every time we have gone. And the food is delicious!!!
