After 3 doctors at the same institution had said my ankle needed surgery, Dr. Behrens bravely took another diagnostic step and successfully treated my fractured right ankle without surgery. That was in April 2021, and I have not had a problem of any kind with my well healed ankle. I can even do tree pose in yoga while standing on either foot. I am 85 years of age.As important, his NP is also stellar. Both have excellent listening and communicative skills.

Dr. Behrens is a superb surgeon. He is polite, thoughtful, and remarkably effective. He performed three surgeries on my ankle and quite literally enabled me to walk again. Without him, it's not clear that I would be mobile.

Over a year ago, I had an accident two hours north of NYC. Looking at the lower half of the leg, I knew my leg would need some very serious repair as my limb was contorted in a manner that defied its natural anatomy :(After making several quick calls to my Dr. friends, I decided that I should be driven to HSS.I underwent emergency surgery for a combined tibia-fibula multiple fractures performed by Dr. Behrens. Today, at my fruitful 50 years of age, 18 months after my accident, I am profoundly grateful for the Dr. Behrens exp... read more

Brusque, impersonal. My wife went to him for foot pain. He had X-rays taken. Walked in, did no exam, asked almost no questions and told my wife she need ankle replacement surgery and possibly a joint fusion surgery for foot. He prescribed a steroid shot for pain and told us to contact him when my wife quit smoking. My wife had no ankle pain. We went to another doctor who did a careful examination of her foot, asked about where and when pain occurred and took additional X-rays. He found (later confirmed with a cat scan) that ... read more

I scheduled an appointment 2 months in advance with this doctor for ankle/foot issues that he lists under his specialties. One week before my appointment his office called to cancel my appointment and schedule it with an assistant attending physician instead because he didn't want to see me. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism within the Weill Cornell network.

After much confusion and having to cancel because of being sick, I finally saw Dr. Behrens and he's amazing as is his staff. He has an excellent bedside manner and took the time to explain my condition and possible treatments, reassure me, and chat. I appreciated his staff as well, who were all knowledgeable and polite.

Excellent surgeon. I needed my foot and ankle reconstructed and I was scared. Dr. Behrens's compassion and humor put me at ease. He is remarkably skilled. I am now pain free (finally after all these years). If you have any foot and/or ankle problem, I'd highly recommend Dr. Behrens.

If I could sum up my experience with Dr. Behrens in one word, outstanding is what comes to mind. I first met him a few years after suffering a horrible injury to my ankle, which required multiple surgeries elsewhere yet was never the same. He listened to my concerns intently, took the time to explain everything to me in detail, and made sure I understood and was comfortable with the plan to (finally) fix my ankle. I'm so happy I decided to proceed with surgery with Dr. Behrens. I am now essentially pain free and can walk wit... read more

Awful doctor. He did a terrible job on surgery and my knee will forever be ruined because of him. Don’t go to him find anyone else.
