Recently, I had to take my sweet cat Leighroi, to Dr. Bates for an after hours visit. After visiting with Dr. Bates it was brought to our attention that our cat was suffering and was having a difficult time breathing. My husband and I had to make the difficult decision to put our sweet cat down. Dr. Bates carefully explained our options. I cannot even begin to describe the passion that Dr Bates and his staff have for the animals they care for right along with the animal parents. My recommendation for Bates Animal Hospital is much larger than just 5 stars!
I can't rave about Dr. Bates enough! Through my personal line of work in dog daycare and boarding, I've become very familiar with the majority of vets offices in Athens and the surrounding areas over the past few years. Hunter Bates is the type of vet that I would want if I were an animal. My wife and I met him around 9 years ago at another clinic, with our pom, Cinnamon. She had been having some issues, and Dr. Bates figured out she had cancer. She was referred to UGA, so we had piece of mind knowing we did all we could. Dr. Bates was on vacation when we took her to UGA, but on his way home he stopped there to check in on her, which totally goes above and beyond the normal call of duty. We can't possibly praise Dr. Bates enough. We met him 3 years ago, when we first moved to Athens. Just a few weeks after arriving we learned our Boston Terrier, Mugsy, had terminal cancer. Dr. Bates' expertise and compassion was phenomenal. We also arrived in Athens with an elderly Chihuahua with various health problems. Dr. Bates helped us keep Lucy as comfortable as possible enabling her to enjoy the highest quality of life possible.
