Bamboo Sushi

About this business

Seafood restaurants in general have been criticized for disturbing the delicate balance of marine life, but Bamboo Sushi aims to change that. The restaurant adopts sustainable practices in everything it does right from ethical sourcing of seafood and meats to its energy utilization and recycling. The menu has a fine selection of sushi, ranging from nigiri and sashimi to their signature sushi rolls. Apart from sushi, there's an excellent choice of seafood specialties with delights like seafood charcuterie and geoduck saute. T... read more

Da Bomb Diggity – This place has quickly become my primo favourite Sushi place in Portland. As a hardcore sushi snob, this place nails it every single time. I am always taken to one of my favourite realms available through food; that of intense moaning soulgasm of pure unadulturated ecstasy. Their rolls are great, the nigiri is amazing. I highly recommend wild salmon nigiri; it's amazing. Good sake selection. Amazing Mojitos! They've got a fancy modern hand dryer. In short; the place is great. It's my favourite sushi place i... read more

Melt-In-You-Mouth Sushi!!! – Oh my got, it was fantastic!!! I was there for a casual sushi lunch and left amazed and impressed. I'm no sushi expert, but I grew up in Japan and have had sushi many many times. Masu's nigiri's are one of the best I've had in the US. The rolls were okay. The rolls are definitely creative and innovative, but they were just okay to me. They have wonderfully fresh fish and I felt that the layers of flavors of rolls actually took away from the fish. But nigiri, oh nigiri. Nigiri was so fantastic I w... read more

A thousand steps above cheap sushi – O.K., I'll admit it: This was my first foray into quality sushi, so I am not an expert. But after eating at sushi land, mio sushi, and a few other places, this place blew me out of the water. The salmon was so soft; it was like eating a different dish entirely than what I have ever been previously exposed to. It was also the first time that I've had real wasabi. ' Service was slow, but friendly. Atmosphere was modern but relaxing. The music was pleasant and not particularlly loud. My daug... read more

Always great nigiri – I held Masu up as the best sushi joint in town, but my last visit fell a bit flat. The nigiri is always impeccable: very fresh and flavorful, good-sized portions. Masu's cocktails are creative and delicious, using fresh fruit -- try the Asterix Gimlet with pureed kiwi. Yum! My date and I branched out and had entrees in addition to sushi this time. I had the vegetable yaki soba, which tasted good but had the consistency of leftovers reheated in the microwave. The tofu on the side was freshly prepared wit... read more

Amazing! – I have eaten sushi all over this town and nothing compares to Masu East! I think I have probably dined at Masu East at least 20 times...never leaving disappointed (sit sushi bar if possible). The fish is so consistent. The amibiance and music are great. No one, not Hiroshi, Murata, Sinju, Yokos, especially Saboro's (which technically shouldn't be even mentioned on this same list because it's bargain fish) none of these compare. Yes, the chefs at East are white, but they are trained traditionally and will knock you... read more

Best Sushi in Portland! – I have been lucky enough to enjoy great sushi all over the world and I am thrilled to finally have some excellent sushi here in Portland. The quality of the fish served at Masu East is unparalled. The rolls were beautiful, inventive and absolutley scrumptious (the Highway 13 is one of my favs). Since I have found this gem, I have gone several times and never been disapointed.

Sushi was good, but service was sloooooooooow. – The sushi was commesnsurate with the prices. Although there is good sushi to be had in this town for less, I would still recommend Masu on the grounds that they have some unique and appealing selections, if the service hadn't been so poor. It was lunchtime on a weekday and we were the only table in the entire restaurant. Nonetheless, it took forever to bring out our makizushi, and after we'd finished it, we sat there for another 20 minutes before they brought out the nigirizus... read more

Who are they kidding? – I was excited to finally see a sushi restaurant opening in this neighborhood. As a self proclaimed sushi fanatic, I am willing to give every new restaurant a fair shot. Let me tell you that Masu East will not end up on my favorites-list. Too wishie washie, food is OK but completely overpriced and not THAT good, the place has no character, so why am I here again? Oh right, it's in walking distance to my house. Hey, the pizza next door smelled good and that place is hopping every day of the week. Well, ... read more

Best overall place for sushi on the East side – I have been to Masu East four times and I am so impressed! Great food, an engaging staff, a very hip laoout and design to the floorplan. I no longer felt I was in a neighborhood restaurant, it was more like what I am used to in other cities I have dined in like San Francisco. They have a killer sake list, far better than 98% of the susi joints I go to. I highlu recommend it!!
