Seafood restaurants in general have been criticized for disturbing the delicate balance of marine life, but Bamboo Sushi aims to change that. The restaurant adopts sustainable practices in everything it does right from ethical sourcing of seafood and meats to its energy utilization and recycling. The menu has a fine selection of sushi, ranging from nigiri and sashimi to their signature sushi rolls. Apart from sushi, there's an excellent choice of seafood specialties with delights like seafood charcuterie and geoduck saute. T... read more

Favorite! – This is my favorite sushi place in Portland, and it happened by accident. My boyfriend and I were going to Yokos sushi for his birthday one night, but they closed an hour early. Frustrated because that happens very often we went to Masu East, and I have been going there ever since. Everyone that works there is beyond too sweet. The owner, the manager, the chefs, the waiters! Oh, and the place is beautifully done! I don't think that the sushi is expensive, but obviously if you're used to "sushiland" type prices th... read more
Great smoked salmon that they make in-house. – I'm recommending Masu East with some cautions, since I would return for a few select items, and it really is a nice facility. Staff was attentive, we sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs were friendly and helpful. My husband had the kobe beef burger, which he liked, but said there are a lot of good burgers in town for less than the $14 they charge here. And the onion rings that come with it are unfortunately not very good, the batter is heavy and doughy, not what you'd expec... read more
Overpriced with so-so service – I've gone to Masu East a couple of times. The first time I sat at the sushi bar and had good service from the sushi chef. They paced the rolls, which I wasn't expecting and didn't necessarily love, but it seems that they are trying to be fancy. The more standard rolls were good with good quality fish. The fancier, expensive rolls just weren't worth it. The second time I went there the dining room was empty, but we were told that all of the tables were reserved. They would be willing to seat us... read more
Akward service, pretty food that dosnt deliver on taste – I had high hopes for Masu, i had heard good things about downtown, but i went to east. The service was cold, at one point we asked the hostess for desert menus and she took our order but never put it in or told the server who was taking too long... our server than took the time to tell us what we had done wrong. 4 star restaurant? i think not. The food sounded good on the menu, but it was executed poorly, like they were trying to hard for the contemporary title. the s... read more
great downtown horrible east side – i had a wonderfully amazing dinner with my fiance at the downtown location a few weeks ago, the chefs were witty and there creations were endless and i couldn't have had a better experience. so i got invited to the east location with my best friend and i figured that it had to be amazing, but boy could it have been farther from the truth. First of all the host had no clue as to what it was like to great a guest at a resturant( i'm a manager of a resturant) so it was quite emberessing that ... read more
All Around Awesome. – Searching on this website we found this restaurant. it was a small place but when we walked in we informed the waitress that it was our first time. she seated us at the sushi bar and we looked at the menu. we were served water with fresh cucumber in it. how nice? we ordered the vegetarian sushi platter and the assorted sushi platter. we also got the vegetarian yakisoba and a glass of plumb wine. when we started talking to the sushi maker he was very nice and funny. but it all happened for us when we sta... read more
Best Sushi available in Portland, great experience – Someone directed me to check out Mio Sushi one day, but before heading out I looked it up on citysearch and after about an hour of comparing sushi places, decided to treat myself to Masu East instead... The best decision and meal I've had in a while! Although I went alone and this was somewhat awkward, once my server realised it was just going to be me she was very attentive and cool. The place has a great vibe, and I would recommend it for an evening out with friends or a... read more
Talented Chef, Creative Dishes Available – Loved the food I ordered and will DEFINITELY return! I went with a friend this past Sunday night and we got some nigiri (sake, unagi, toro, saba) which was good but a bit pricy. But considering some sushi I have had around town for not much less, I would say it was worth it. We also had two dishes that I must say were the stars of the show~! The first one is the roasted quail stuffed with brown rice/shitake mushrooms, it is served atop grilled romaine lettuce and drizzled with a bac... read more
The worst – We went on a Friday night and there were quite a few people. The restaurant was beautiful and has very cool architecture. The hot tea tasted like popcorn and when we asked the waitress she said it was made with brown rice. Appetizer was all right but the sushi was terrible the rice was really hard and the rolls had no flavor. I had yaki soba noodle for my entree which was pretty good, but the trout my husband ate was terribly bland THE FOOD WAS NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!! My husband and I were both sick shortly after ... read more
