Delicious cakes for weddings and other occasions Amphora Bakery is connected to their restaurant, but I went there to taste their wedding cake samples, wow, they were tasty! I had a friend who bought her cake from there for her wedding and it was delicious. The samples they brought out were huge and plenty. Just call ahead to make an appointment, they have tons of flavors to choose from and are reasonably priced (for wedding cake!) PROS: Delicious cakes, wide variety of flavors CONS: None
Volunteer The cake sat temptingly on the dessert table at the Shepherd's Center of Oakton Vienna annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held this week. Guests at the annual luncheon are senior volunteers who give time and talent to others in the community and the annual luncheon is always a nice time to say "thanks" to the busy Center's many volunteers. Why the changes??? I used to be able to walk into Amphora Bakery and pick up a really good cake; maybe a bit more expensive than some other places - but I thought the cakes were worth it. Since they have relocated (a minor change - one building back) a lot has changed: on the positive side, the decor is nicer; while on the negative side, the prices increased; the cakes are smaller for the price; the walk in selection is lousy; the cakes taste dryer; and the flavor does not seem to be as intense. Great tasting cakes I have had cakes from this place at many parties and we buy sometimes too. They are delicious. They run out of stock sometimes if you go impromptu for a pastry. It is a bit on the expensive side but I think that is true for most small bakeries.
Rude, Disorganized, and Uncooperative We went there when I was lookign for my wedding cake. We had made an appointment for a tasting and told them what types of cake flavors I wanted 2 weeks in advance, as requested. We went and they made me wait an hour. Then they brought out flavors I didn't want and told me that I'd have to make an appointment to try the flavors I'd requested (we did, 2 weeks before). Frozen Wedding Cake & Terrible Service I got married 4 weeks ago and I just wanted to warn everyone NOT to get their wedding cake from Amphora Bakery in Herndon, VA because they delivered a FROZEN 5 tier cake to my wedding reception. They delivered the cake at 5:30pm and when I cut the cake at 10pm - the whole center of the cake was still frozen. Best Cakes in Northern Virginia We have been Amphora customers for many years, and they have never disappointed us. Their cakes and baked goods are not only delicious, but very artistic! We have often "customized" designs for different parties (kids, graduation, office, etc.), and the results have been fantastic. The mocha-rum and opera cakes are especially delicious, as are their Christmas cookies. Pretty cake, good value! Just got a gorgeous cake for a bridal shower, and it was amazing! The cake was moist, and the mousse and jam fillings are to die for, with so many from which to choose. I wanted a different color combination than what was shown in their cake catalog, and that was no problem. Would have been nice to offer small samples of cake and filling flavors to help with choices. Staff very friendly and helpful. The cake was a big hit with the bride and all the guests--the perfect touch!
