AFSA is a sweetheart Union that lies to its members and, unless you are already tenured at your agency, will do nothing at all to help you. AFSA's "negotiator" threw me to the wolves and I was forced into retirement at age 63. I lost my house; my family went crazy; I couldn't find work; we went on food stamps; we suffered hugely because of AFSA. If I had actually done anything wrong I would have accepted the forced retirement but the reality is that I was a pawn in their all too close relationship with management.
