Above average pub grub – After an exhausting 13-hour workday, my husband and I wandered in to Alameda around 10:15 on a weeknight. Although the place was nearly deserted, we were still able to get food and there was none of that "we're kicking you out" mentality that you get at so many other places at closing time. Plus, the entire menu was still available. Had fried oysters; husband had turkey pot pie. Food was generously portioned and tasty. More choices than your average beer place. We'll be back!
Get the nachos! Service is so-so – Alameda's small nacho plate is one of the best deals in Portland - it's a heaping pile of chips, beans, cheese, sour cream, and jalapenos. The menu is eclectic but good and the Black Bear Stout (nitro) is an excellent beer. On the down side, the service is only so-so. We've taken family and friends here many times and we love the happy hours, when a plate of nachos and the spinach salad work wonders with a couple of signature beers.
Great beer & location - food not so good – The Alameda Brewhouse is in my neighborhood and we like to walk over with neighbors to get dinner. We appreciate the service, love to sit outdoors and enjoy the beer. The food, on the other hand, is not the reason to visit. The menu tries too hard to be eclectic and and they rarely serve something that's not too greasy, cold, etc. They just need to spend the same amount of time and care on their food as they do their beer.
Best Kept Beer Secret – Basically the first time I went here, was the beginning of a long-standing relationship. Now I go there every Thursday. (2.25 pints house beer Tues/Thurs) Food is high quality and filling. Servers in the past have been down-to-earth although with the recent loss of Phil or 'biscuit' we have noticed a little snootier attitude. But I still would never abandon my little home away from home ALAMEDA!
LOVE IT – Alameda is a terrific neighborhood hangout. Whether you are single, on a date or out with the kids, this place works. Full bar, tasty microbrews, and yummy food is what makes Alameda shine. Don't miss their Onion Rings!!!
Love the space – This is a great spacehigh ceilings and groovy light fixtures. Food options are better than the typical pub grub (this fish and chips and the onion rings are some of the best I've had in town). However, Ive encountered problems with inconsistent service from time to time (waiters have been on the rude or have calculated my bills incorrectly).
