Employee charged our home A/C unit but he forgot to check for leaks, refrigerant leaked because it stopped working. Called him the second time because my home furnace stopped working he stated furnace needs to be replaced, he forgot to check the furnace for leaks the first time, he kept stating furnace needs to be replaced because it needed the mother board and the coolant coils are bad. During our July 4th, 2021 heat wave, wouldn't you know my A/C quit working! I called around on the evening of June 30th, after checking some ratings of A/C repair cos working in the Maple Grove area. It seemed no one was able to help, on an emergency service (spouse has COPD) until I called Air Knights, after hours. This was at night, and James from Air Knights came out the next morning, added like 6 lbs of freon (which included a sealant) to my 15 year old condenser, and within minutes the air in the house started to cool. ... read more

We called Air Knights for an AC repair service. Our AC stopped working on the weekend of heat wave of first week of June 2021. Paul came in on a Tuesday morning and said "I was calling you but you were not answering my call!" I was like surprised with the initial statement when he came but whatever! He charged us $75 for the visit and $595 for replacing a $20 capacitor. It is definitely a ripped off, price gouging and taking advantage of people's situation in their most inconvenient situation. Had this outfit come and check our AC...James told us it needed more freon and had a possible leak and tried to sell us a fix for the possible leak...the fix would be over $500...didn't take that offer Cost for the freon and service call...over $600.....Freon $195/lb!! problem is he didn't check to see if all was working properly before he left and the condenser and outside unit was looked at. I highly recommend Air Knights. I submitted a request for service through Angie's List and described my problem. Within 2 hours, Paul (the owner) called me to find out more about it. Other businesses I talked to had someone from the office call me, and whenever I asked them a question they had to either put me on hold or call me back after they talked to their techs. I had contact Air Knights about an residential AC unit that would not turn on. They came out and said it needed a capacitor and that he didn't have the right one and would need to order it. I was charge $75 for that visit and I have no issue with that. After he did get the capacitor and came out to replace two days later, he fixed the unit in under an hour and then charged me an additional $293 dollars. One company wanted to replace my furnace that was short cycling. Air knight came out and cleaned the dust filled AC coils with some acid and not a problem since. AC wasn't cooling very well and they diagnosed low coolant. Old unit with off the market Freon so a bit spendy, he also sprayed some goop in the coolant line to hopefully stop the leak said it might work it might not, it helped the AC limp along for 2 more years (unit from the 90's) On top of that they came out quickly both times. We paid almost $1000 for 5 lbs of freon and an injection (that you can get online for $75). Upon, emailing to get some of the money back after getting overcharged; no response. I made the mistake of asking my uncles who work in HVAC after the fact and got bamboozled.

I asked for my Central Air unit to be checked. I was told by the individual from Air Knights that i was down 7 lbs of freon and I had a leak, and because it was the freon being phased out, it would be 175/per pound and the sealant for the leak would be another 500 for a grand total of between $1700-1800. Paid $75 for the diagnostic, told him i would let him know. My friend's neighbor is in HVAC, so he came over and it turns out that my Unit's max is 4.5 pounds, so 7 lbs was quite a bit over what my unit can even take. I was ... read more
