A Fremont Surprise – I rarely feel compelled to write a review, but after our excellent dinner tonight I thought I would share. Our server was (thankfully!) well informed enough to make some very credible wine suggestions that would accommodate all four of our appetizer and dinner entrees. Escargot -- so rich, so fabulous. I had the duck, which is generally really good or really bad. Excellent. Paired with a port wine sauce, purple potatoes and leeks -- just gorgeous. We also had the monkfish (perfectly done), the steak frit... read more
35th Street Bistro - A Neighborhood Gem – What a fabulous find we made last weekend. My wife and I stopped in casually late Friday night and had an absolute perfect dinner at 35th St. bistro. Very attentive, helpful service, fabulous food (they even were able to make a special crab legs appetizer for us on demand) and nice, casual ambience. A great date night location. Special attention should be drawn to the wine list as well, which we felt was quite extensive for a small restaurant. We'll be regulars in no time!
What's with this place? – We tried to get in at 7:00 but they were "booked". At 7:00 they were only at about 50% capacity. In other words, they treat walk-ins better than people who make reservations. The food was below average. We had pork and duck. Both were cold and VERY tough. We went to this restaurant because we were celebrating a special occasion and it had great reviews. What a disappointment!! We do not recommend it and we will never go back.
Relaxed, Elegant Atmosphere and Great Food – What a find! The Bistro is set in a beautiful space that is greatly enhanced by a very interesting collection of art. The paint, lighting, and music are pluses as well. Our server was warm and helpful and the owner was an interesting guy to talk to. Even better than the excellent atmosphere was the food and wine. The food is mostly French-influenced, and is prepared beautifully. I had a lovely duck breast that was served with a nice sauce and good vegetables. The really unique thi... read more
Expensive and bad service – The fries are good. That's about it. They were late seating us for our reservation. The complimentary scallops were not good, and then the owner ignored us when we were asking for the bill. We will never go back. Too many good restaurants to try and the food was just ok or worse for the price. (One good thing: the server was nice and cute and tried to make up for it.)
Good...but – I enjoyed my meal. The value of the daily pasta is a winner. Lots of good fresh seafood, but the pasta was way overcooked. It was pretty much falling apart when you put your fork into it. The salad was good...but really...$7 for mixed greens covered with a mist of flavored oil? The wine list was good. I'll try this place again, but I likely wouldn't order the pasta.
Fremont needed this! – Gourmet continental cuisine. Fremont needed a restaurant like this. I'm not sure why someone commented the wine list was small. It was 6 times longer than the menu! Our food was excellent, the service good. Great ambience and lighting.
A Fremont Find – This is a great eating and meeting spot. reminds me of the small neighborhood bistros in Europe. There is a bar for the martini set, but the wine list, though small, is very good and reasonably priced. A place where you can have a drink, glass of wine, dinner, and even dessert for two and still be well under $80 buck.
cozy neighborhood place to chill – this place is warm and wonderful. the bistro salad, handcut fries and sauteed calamari are great and habit forming. all the servers have always been sweet and attentive. and laura makes a killer french martini!
