Food's Excellent Customer Service Needs Alot of Work The food at this restaurant is really, really excellent. I have had several items from their menu....dips, appetizers, entrees...everything was great. But the customer service on the other hand is AWFUL. The staff is rude and slow. They would rather chat amongst themselves than get their customer another drink refill or ask if anything is needed. I completely stopped eating in and switched to take out because of the rudeness. oh no! I went here with high hopes and even gave it a second and third chance always the same, poor service, nice outdoor settings, rude servers, not fond of the indoor setting, not to clean inside, the food was always awfull, the chips were always stale, i once even got moldy salsa mmmmmm... that ended my attempts at this one, drive down the road a bit and go to white castle, its cleaner and better service!
The only choice in town As far as Mexican restaurants go, Zapata's is the only place I enjoy in town. However, in the last couple months the quality has declined quite a bit. The food used to be delicious, now they seem to improvise with things and it just isn't quite what it used to be. The fajitas I had just two nights ago were smothered in some sort of bland red sauce, and the cold plate of toppings was not a bit fresh. Best Mexican in town..... Zapatas is your best choice for Mexican food if you wish to stay in Collinsville, but honestly I would recommend a neighboring town instead of this eatery. The food is average at absolute best; I have had some dishes that were fairly good but others that were simply awful. Overall - this is just not a place I look forward to eating at. Good Food, Bad Service We have repeatedly tried this restaurant for more than 2 years hoping it would get better, but after more than 50 visits, we can no longer subject ourselves to the poor quality of service, the rude management and staff, etc. We have a circle of about 20 friends who gathered there on Friday evenings. Food, OK - Customer Service - Lacking (bad waitress) – Spur of the moment stop, with my BF, at Zapata's Mexican Restaurant in Collinsville, IL . We had never been there before, but figured ok to grab a bite and have a drink. The appearance was quaint, but large, like a cantina but double or triple in size. Honestly, the worst mexican food I've ever tasted. – We have passed through Collinsville many times over the years during 'road trips' and family vacations. Every experience we had previously in this town was a good one, until last week. Zapata's has now become our family's token word for "bad, scary food". Great place to eat. – We ate there Feb 6, 2009 for the noon buffet and the food was great, the food was same as when we ate there Feb. 1st 2008. We go there every year for the Wood Working Show that's near by and always eat ate Zapata's.
