The Wilde Roast Cafe is a neighborhood restaurant with an updated Victorian feel, but it's not your typical cafe. The cafe is named after Oscar Wilde, the popular 19th Century playwright. Wilde lived much of his life in England, although he was Irish. He was a man with eccentric tastes that were ahead of his time; he favored velvet breeches and peacock feathers. Wilde enjoyed poking fun at the Victorian society in his two most famous plays: An Ideal Husband and The Importance of Being Earnest, both written in 1893. He died i... read more

Citysearch Editorial Review – Inspired by Victorian-era charm and elegance, this Northeast coffee shop and café is anything but stuffy. Large windows look out onto a bustling area of Hennepin Avenue, while the dark-wood décor, oversized chairs and tall bistro tables offer a place to escape. Folks hunker over laptops and frothy drinks as they nibble on the café’s homemade sandwiches, gourmet pizzas and scratch-made desserts. And during evening hours, the cozy café offers up pasta dishes, wine specials and more.
Bland overpriced food, but great atmosphere! – Had a small personal pizza about 8 inches (Bland as chef boyardee) and a can of coke - price: $13.27 Husband had a Rachel sandwich and the Chevre app, a bottle of reeds ginger brew, and a creme puff Total for him - about $30, for real! I would never eat there again, but would go for the coffee and desserts.
Requires a few tweaks! – Atmospher is SO relaxing here. Nice lighting, browns, artwork, fireplace, live music, variety of seating options. The coffee is the best in town. The desserts are to die for. I think the food is trying too hard. Most is very good (I do not like the salad dressing) but I think would better if they had some good, hearty, home cooking. Think soups, salads, meat loaf, mac/cheese, bread pudding, etc. A great spot none-the-less
Horrible food – I live in the neighborhood and I really wanted to love this place...but I can't. I have been here several times and the only thing on the menu that is good are the cornmeal pancakes for brunch/breakfast. The rest of it...bland, dry, tasteless and overpriced. Oh, don't forget the rude service on the side. The lattes are good too and that's about it. One more thing, I strongly question the sanitation of the place...my boyfriend swears he saw creature scurrying across the floor but in an effort not to scare the ... read more
Disapointed...not too veggie friendly-be careful, there are some things that seem vegetarian and are not – I ate here on the recommend of a friend...it was not very good. I am a vegetarian and so is my husband. We later found out that our order contained gelatin. Very sad. I was also upset due to the fact that there was no where to sit. The place was packed with single people and their laptops-we did ask someone who was just nursing a cup of coffee if we could share the table with him. (it sat 4) He just left. Oh well..this ... read more
Meh – This place is okay. The coffee is good, as are the pastries and sweet treats but the entrees are too pricey for what they are. And what they are, what they is, is dry and kind of tasteless. I had the mac and cheese and a salad and it wasn't worth the money. Honestly, save your money...we're in a recession!
Favorite new hangout! – Since my first visit just a few months ago, Wilde Roast has quickly become my new favorite place to meet up with friends for a good catching up session. The layout and choice of seating really encourage Wilde's patrons to sit and chat for hours upon end. It's warm and inviting, the drinks and desserts are fabulous (don't miss the pumpkin pie! It's simple, but so good!), and the food is for the most part very good. Despite a few minor disappointments, I've found that both their Reuben and artichoke dip... read more
Northeast low-lit cafe known as much for its intimate decor as its well-rounded menu – In Short The dim Victorian-style cafe greets visitors with a hushed chatter as a medley of business diners and students converse over frothy mochas and loose-leaf teas. The oversized armchairs and bistro tables encourage patrons to linger while savoring made-from-scratch desserts, ambitious sandwiches, gourmet pizzas and mixed greens salads. The dark espresso-stained decor mimics the coffee beans lined behind the front counter, as chefs fl... read more
Kill the Wireless – Thanks god they killed the wireless on the weekends. The place was too busy and I didn't like to go there, but now that the wireless is gone so are the students who camped out for hours. Now I don't mind telling my friends to meet me at the Wilde Roast because we can find a place to sit. This is what Oscar would have wanted!
