Specialties We started with one waitress and a recipe for strawberry bread out on Lincoln Street more than 35 years ago. Since then we've added a few more members to the team, a few more items to the menu, and moved into a bigger and better location. We've built our business to reflect the values of our family, our neighbors, and our town. Every dish we serve is based on our tried-and-true recipes, from biscuits and gravy, to our French onion soup, to that famous strawberry bread. We love that there's a table big enough for extended family for breakfast before or after church, and at the same time there's a small cozy table on a rare day date with just my husband and I. My kids love stopping to pick up a muffin to eat on our drive to school, and we're always greeted with a smile. PS- you won't find better muffins anywhere!
Yesterday was my last breakfast at What’s Cookin’ as I no longer work at EIU and have sold my house and left Charleston. I won’t miss stupid EIU or the backwards city of Charleston, but I will always remember breakfasts at What’s Cookin’ with great fondness.
Food was good and service was great as usual! Friendly smiling faces.
Services is okay at best. Coffee cup never stays full and trying to get someone to fill your coffee cup is impossible. If you like your bacon crisp, you have to tell them to flat iron the bacon or it will not come out crispy. Their prices are too high for bland food. The strawberry bread is delicious. That is the only good thing about What's Cookin.
Way over priced!! Food was not worth the price! $6 for 2 pancakes plus everything else we got that was overpriced!
