I've had two negative experiences with extra space storage related to shady pricing. At the first location, they changed my rate by $90 after only being in the unit for 3 months and then I moved to a different independent location to resolve. Then within two months, extra space acquired them, and after being told at signing that the rate would not increase for at least 6 months, it almost doubled after only 4 months.
