Lotsssssss of books.. great prices, friendly staff.. Right at Train statlon. Lovely neighborhood setting to browse books & sit outside & read. Great concert series Spring thru Fall
I don't live nearby, but my friends have been telling me about this wonderful gem for a long time. Imagine my delight when I heard they needed a web site; it gave me an excuse to go over there and hang out. Being there always makes me want to move to Mount Airy. I'd go every day, drink coffee, browse books, sit in the sunshine, and talk to Greg and Cynthia, who seem to know every person who walks by. They host free concerts in the summer, kids play outside, and commuters go in and out on their way to the train. If every comm... read more
Greg is a fantastic merchant. He is always cordial and very helpful. I stop by only occasionally because I end up spending hours in this dreamy, rambling train station. I often decide to make a collection on a topic, and voila! I am purchasing a dozen great books, enjoying a good cuppa with Greg and other patrons. WACM is a sensual experience...there are NOT many bookstores like this anymore. The newsletter, the live music, the flea market events...this is heaven on earth! Thanks to the entire staff...a family of bibliophile... read more
Being from the west-central part of the state (aka "the sticks"), I've not had an opportunity to visit the store in Philly. But I have e-purchased several used (non-fiction) books from WACM over the past year. On each occasion, I received the book sooner than expected and in exactly the condition as advertised. I couldn't be more pleased with the prompt, courteous service I've been shown. For that, I will continue to buy from WACM...and maybe even make the road trip to the store when the snow and ice finally melts. Thank you... read more
Walk a Crooked Mile is a fun, incredible resource of books! It requires searching on bookshelves, so you have to be ready to search. Greg always greets with a smile and there is great concerts in summertime. I love taking a break from the concerts, searching through the book shelves while listening to the music. Divine!
I absolutely adore this bookstore. Greg stocks an excellent selection of contemporary fiction that he sells for $2 per book. He is a pleasure to talk with and never fails to stop what he is doing to come and greet me and my children, always with an offer of free tea or coffee. He also allows customers to sell their books to him for credit so I almost never pay with cash. It really is a wonderful place.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff make this a great community resource in the fabulously funky Mt. Airy train station. More than an awesome book store, the owner knows what it is to build community. WACM oozes with warmth, integrity, and a sense of place. A great selection, frequent sales, flea markets, and free concerts help make Walk A Crooked Mile unique.
You can't give no stars so i have to give them one. I tried to do business with this shop over the internet and they could not help me out. could not answer my questions and sold the book out from under me either willfully or negligently. This shop may or may not be good for the local community in Philadelphia but beware of this place if you have to deal with them on the internet. the owner took no steps to remedy the situation other than to say sorry...he could have said perhaps we have something else in stock and we could ... read more
