Great Restaurant for a Special Dinner – Went to the Veranda on Highland while I was in Birmingham on business. I'm from NYC, so I'm used to great restaurants and wasn't expecting to find much in the way of fine dining in Birmingham, Alabama of all places. Boy, was I in for a surprise. One of the best fine dining experiences in Birmingham – Veranda is one of the best restaurants in Birmingham...but it's not the first that comes to mind when you ask most of your friends. Why? It's a well hidden secret. I've tried the cheesecake and peanut butter pie...and it was better than my grandmother's. The cheesecake was perfect...not too heavy. best peanut butter pie ever! – My husband and I recently celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary at the Veranda. The food was fabulous, one of the best meals I have enjoyed in Birmingham. The perfectly seared scallops were accompanied by crisp, tangy avocado slaw and the halibut was wonderfully moist and flakey. The absolutely decadent peanut butter/chocolate ganache pie we shared for dessert was an show stealer. We could not have chosen a better restaurant for our celebration.
Best New Restaurant in the City...hands down. – Ever since Chef Robey took over the kitchen at the newly re-opened Veranda, something really special has been happening on Highland Avenue that has nothing to do with Bottega. This is the best place in Birmingham to sample authenic cajun/creole dishes with a unique southern flair.
