User review by ginnylovesfood – Great great food and great service. I really enjoyed the crab salad. The atmosphere is a little chezzy. Not so good for a young crowd.

Great wine, poor food – Was so excited about going here after all the hype. My husband took me here for my birthday. The service was OK - friendly enough. My venison was dry and flavorless, however, the Pinot Noir was exquisite. It was the best wine I've ever had, and maybe worth the overall very steep price of the meal. My recommendation, skip the meal and go for the wine.

Top Italian in LA once again! – Better than ever and the service is attentive. Still one of the best Wine Lists in the USA. Chef Angelo is creating innovative food.

Senior Citizens Italian – This place is so old fashioned - I almost didn't stay for the famed food. Instead, I thought - I'll never come back here, but want to taste the food, so we did the tasting menu. Fish and pasta dishes were very good - but by the last course, between the wheelchairs, walkers and complete silence in the restaurant, I nearly fell asleep! And almost lost it when the theme song to MASH came on in their rotation of elevator music!

Disappointing – Valentino is supposed to be an institution in L.A. and friends have told me that it is their favorite restaurant so I was excited about having Valentine's Day dinner there. What a disappointment. The service was haphazard, there was absolutely rhyme or reason to the pacing of each course and the wine was often served well before the course arrived. When my steak came out cold, they took it back, only to serve the same piece of meat warmed over. At $85 a person without wine with some items on the menu requirin... read more

A wonderful experience – We had a family dinner at Valentino recently and what an incredible experience. Piero was fabulous, the wine list was like no other and the food & service was truly one of a kind. Everyone should experience Valentino at least once in a dining lifetime. Thank you

Loved the Gnocchi – I thought the restaurant was good. The place is older and a bit too formal for me, but the spinach gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce was amazing, so tender, so flavorful. It was one of the best pasta dishes Ive had. I had a gnocchi in my pants for the next few hours. The grilled squab was ok, but I would opt for something else on the menu. I just looked at the menu online and most of the un-appetizers, look just that. I would do pasta and some entrees. This place has a great wine list and the service was grea... read more

overpriced for average – given the price we paid, i expected amazing. i've had better meals in NYC for 1/3 of the price. for a "fine dining" experience, go elsewhere. food was more italian comfort than a meal to rival the best. at the very least, you can feel good about paying for the wine.

Change in Chef? – I had a 10-course tasting menu and it seemed even more inventive than my prior visit. However, of the 10 items, 4 = exceptional, 1 = very good, 2 = good, 1 = average and 1 was plain mediocre at best. Given the quality of the food, the price charged was obscene. There are still a few bargains on their truly impressive wine list, but not as many as you'd hope given the massive inventory to choose from. Suggestion is to order proven only favorites off of the menu. A course of action which would raise the value... read more
