My Dad spent a long 10 hours in ER recently with an evolving stroke. He was actually left in the waiting room by the triage nurse with slurred speach and a heart rate of 35!! My brother and his son, both LA County Fire Paramedics, and myself, an ICU nurse, had to raise hell and make a scene to get him proper testing and treatment. I am alive today partially because of them, partially because of Long Beach Memorial and Dr John Messenger plus Dr Dan Bettencourt and the head of vascular surgery at USC. Constant care by Sibyl Kearns and the nurses in all 3 hospitals.
My experience with the Long Beach VA Health Care system has been very positive. My primary provider, Lee Petrarca, provides timely and accurate medical services. To Mr. Petrarca, and all of the staff in Alpha Clinic, thank you for your dedication and professionalism. You guys rock! Semper Fi!
I could not be more frustrated with this place. My father is stuck at home with a really bad broken leg that has been operated on numerous times since last May. During one trip to the pharmacy he was asked how he was feeling by the pharmacist. My father responded "Not too well." The pharmacist said "oh good." Obviously not even listening to him. So my dad being the spunky person he is told the pharmacist to go pound sand. Ever since the incident he has not been able to schedule his surgery. They labeled him as non-compliant.... read more

I was a patient there for many years. It is excellent in aspects of medical care. I live in Seattle they are trying hard to raise there standards but the hospital has a way to go. Thanks Long Beach VAMC always
